Yeah Nine appear to be the winners BUT they've lost exclusivity of everything bar SOO and Finals(?) so understandable they are paying less.

According to Fox Sports News yesterday they will broadcast all finals live except the grand final

So nines cost per hour are actually reducing... although news is the bad guy at the moment, remember ch9 has screwed us around for years as well, now they are getting a discount...

Nine's costs under the revised new deal will be $125 million a year including contra.
On that basis, Nine's costs per live hour of NRL have dropped from $633,000 to $521,000 under the new deal.

Costs per live hour have dropped but that ignores that 1/3 of their broadcasts last year were delayed so it is a flawed analysis. In a comparison of cost per hour broadcast it has increased from $396,000 to $521,000

But fox pick up the missed out money from CH9. It was a way for the NRL to shift guaranteed money around and prevent fox from low balling without competitive tension.

And at the end of the day, who cares what we get compared to the AFL? There's no comparing and it's just an attempted pissing contest.

A good deal for us should mean fans can attend and watch the games and our clubs and code overall is strong financially and set up for the future. Can't necessarily have both of those things so compromises will be made.

Judge the deal for what it is and what it will do for us.

Generally it's good practice to measure your outcomes against your main competitor when you are in a war to be number one.

To be fair ek999 is comparing the old channel 9 deal with the new one and that's a healthy analysis to be made.

What? What a loser statement. The AFL ALWAYS get everything they want and probably more like the $300m Rupe just gifted them this time around. No Compromises.

Let's hope the delay has something to do with NRL wanting to f**k the fri 6pm timeslot off.

The Storm seriously think that would be good timeslot for them? They have to be kidding.

It's a NZ slot and nothing else. Get Fox Sports to pay for a 2nd NZ team if they want that shit.

Disgraceful slot for crowds and ratings.

I said it up thread a few pages back, a 6.00 pm Friday timeslot is terrible.

If it is used exclusively for The Warriors home games, it gives them a competitive advantage ala the Friday night Broncos.

There are some clubs who it cannot be used for their home games due to legal restrictions regarding transport to service the ground (e.g. the Broncos).

If it comes about, all it does is swap one bad crowd pulling time slot, Monday at 7.00 am, for 6.00 pm Friday.

I live in the inner northern suburbs and used to work in the CBD. 6pm might have been good then but it will be hard to get people there for it. Not sure I'd renew my membership if that was going to be our primary time slot.

@BradWalterSMH Any room for expansion in this new tv deal Brad? Surely they won't wait until 2022?? #NRL

@playtheballnz there is a clause enabling it to happen after 2018. I think it provides for 17th team to be in Brisbane.

@playtheballnz if there is a 17th team, the NRL will introduce an 18th to create extra game but that is how I believe it is worded.

It will be interesting to see how the expansion clause in the 9 deal is modified in the new agreement.

I don't think the 6pm timeslot is necessarily as bad as some are claiming.
Consider:
- A lot of tradies knock-off around 3pm or earlier on Fridays, a 6pm kick-off still gives them ample time to hit a pub near the ground before attending the game.
- Families bringing the kids along will be able to get them home to bed by around 9-10pm instead of midnight.
- If scheduled somewhere like Melbourne, the stadium is so close to the CBD that office workers should be able to make it to the game fairly easily before kick-off.

A lot will depend on the geographical location of the fixture;
SFS, Townsville or Homebush = disaster
Melbourne or Canberra = could be ok
Penrith, Campbelltown or Cronulla = no good for CBD commuters but it could be great for families, especially if fixture coincides with some sort of family discount pass

So if I'm reading that correctly it guarantees any 17th team would be Brisbane based? But couldn't happen until 2019?

With all the Hi Vis flouro tradie shirts, vests and jackets worn by tradies in the crowd, they might even be able to save money on floodlights, the crowd will be glowing in the dark to provide ample lighting!
