    They are board members, not employees, they can live in Sydney or Melbourne. For about 20 k a site you can set up a magic telepresence, I've got one in my office and you don't even need to visit Newcastle to attend all the board meetings.

    This is the thing that worries me about the NRL being in charge. Their interests may not align with the clubs best interests, and they have shown themselves incapable of resisting the influence of certain clubs and media players. If the NRL aren't tipping in money, they don't deserve a say.

    I wonder whether this was always about confidentiality, I am sure that after the Souths criticism regarding chasing the dollars, by doing it via HSG, his salary would have been exposed to a much smaller group of people including the NRL not seeing it.

    I preface the following comment by saying I don't think Tinkler gives a shit but he does seem to respond readily to criticism. So if he really wanted to get on the front foot in the PR and history wars, then he should offer to keep Bennett in Newcastle for the balance of the original deal.

    I've got a feeling that he will stay and maybe for an extra year. He seems a man of his word and I think he will see the contract out. He might even want to be around to get the knights back on their feet.
