Newcastle Knights Members Club board to ask Nathan Tinkler to walk away

Will be interesting to see who the new players will be in the ownership. Will it be the members consortium that was making noise around the tinkler takeover which is backed by local millionaires? Will it be wests? A combination ? A new bid? Interesting times. Hopefully it's for the best.

Mike Rabbitt said on NBN news that Bennett has been talking with the broncos today.

Can't find it anywhere online so I'm calling bullshit. Plus, I reckon it would severely damage bennetts reputation and legacy if he did jump ship

The Broncos would be absolutely falling over themselves to get to him right now. This is a club listed on the stock exchange, has one team in a city of over 2 million people, a state of the art 52000 seat home ground with an average crowd in excess of 30K and money to burn from very, very wealthy supporters. They're desperate to get back on track having only had maybe two decent seasons since Bennett left. They are going to want him back ASAP and will probably pay whatever it takes to do so.

That said, maybe the legend grows if a decent ownership model is put together and he stays to steady the ship, possibly (and very likely) for less money than the Broncos are now throwing at him.

You cannot blame the bloke for leaving Newcastle now, that's for sure and certain.

Up here on the Bris news they're going on about how Wayne could come back to the Broncs. Broncos supporters really don't give a crap about anyone but themselves do they. Too bad for the Knights, we want to win another premiership. Very selfish.

Wayne should go. Then we can all move forward. Darius can go back home. Then we don't have anymore speculation. The next CEO has to be a right arse kicker on every level ie. THE BOSS. That is where it starts in my book. Someone who knows how to keep us profitable and that for me is what our main priority should be. Makes the cuts and swiftly if we are looking to make a loss.

It was highly published that he was planning on leaving Brisbane for the roosters a number of years ago during a contract. I read his book and he says so himself. It didn't seem to hurt his reputation too much. I do agree though that it wouldn't be a good look if he jumped ship from the knights.

I don't want Wayne to go at all. There are not any quality coaches on the market and it will destroy the playing group. Mullo will also go back to how he was pre-Bennett and you can bet your bottom dollar he'll take Clydesdale, Mamo and Tapine with him.

I've got a feeling that he will stay and maybe for an extra year.

He seems a man of his word and I think he will see the contract out.

He might even want to be around to get the knights back on their feet.

I hope you are all right. I want Wayne to stay. Even beyond his current deal. No reason we cannot be his final stop as coach. I a merely approaching it from the hurt that will follow his departure. The final kick in the guts it would be but at least we wouldn't have to read he is leaving every morning in the press. Speculation kills clubs after awhile. Especially one that has been caned as much as we have on and off field.

The fact that Wayne's contract is with HSG and not the Knights themselves is why the media is falling over themselves to fuel the speculation that he'll leave. Honestly they love a good 'Wayne is leaving' story. As I said in another thread a few days ago, it almost makes me want it to happen just so we don't have to put up with hearing about it anymore.

However I'm confident he'll stay.

Build statues for Rob Tew and Steve Burraston. Those two blokes were heroic in how far they stuck out their necks to get your club the best possible deal to protect you from this grub.

The Knights will be around long after Nathan Tinkler is no more than an answer in a pub trivia game. They are a big reason why.

Utter rubbish as has come out in the wash the last 2 days. Tinkler denies there was ever a buy back clause or a bank guarantee. Tew allegedly insisted on both before handing the club over. So much for due diligence. Secondly Burro was in it for himself. He was not wanting to give up his status for anyone. in my view Burro was a decent administrator and we have plenty to thank him for but he was not the hero you claim him to be.

There was a buy back clause but it seems the NRL didn't want us to initiate it. I think it's pretty obvious they're over our constant management incompetence and wanted to run the club.

Also reading that I'm starting to get the impression Bennett will stay on. The only way I could see him leave was if the club told him to, but if the club sees keeping him on as a priority for our rebuild then I doubt he would just pick up and leave. He seems to be a man of his word, and like others have said I think his credibility and reputation in the game would take a huge hit if he just picked up and left the club in the current state. He wouldn't do that to his players.

Wayne will have to get a release from his contract with HSG in order to continue at the Knights, won't he? Tinks might say you can leave but can't work in the NRL for another year (or however long his current deal is for).

I think Wayne wants to stay and see things get back on track. But since he doesn't actually work for the Knights, I guess it is up to Tinks to decide what happens. FFS.

I preface the following comment by saying I don't think Tinkler gives a shit but he does seem to respond readily to criticism.

So if he really wanted to get on the front foot in the PR and history wars, then he should offer to keep Bennett in Newcastle for the balance of the original deal.
