Learn the rules, downward pressure is required, not control.

You need Control when your in possession of the ball like Ogre.... When the ball is kicked through all you need to do is dive on it no control is required just downward pressure... so yes you need control of the ball when you are actually in the process of putting it down over the line...

You don't need control. That 'rule' is non-existent. Downward pressure is all that is required, and it was there.

Mr Bean Hampstead is a fkin weed on society. Pathetic night. Highlight of which was not blowing end of first half after the siren, letting Penrith have another play to score.

Personally, i thought it was a try.

He lost it, but regained contact before the ball hit the ground and held that contact to apply force, albeit with his forearm

I wasn't so worried by the put down as by the dive fitzgibbon took that gave them the set in which he scored.

Fitzgibbon can claim whatever the hell he likes but his a diver.
Players dive in every second tackle these days. The first penalty of the match came from a Panthers player doing a 10/10 frosby flop.

Fitzy is no different to every player in the comp who kicks out like a mule when tackled and then looks over to the ref for a penalty.

I've got no problems with players who want to be aggressive with their efforts to get to their feet and in doing so earn their side a penality. I wish I saw more of it in my own team.

I do have a problem with players who get to their feet cleanly and then take a dive to earn a penalty.

If its a knock on in the field of play it should be a knock on in goal.

It's the rules at fault, since anything is considered a try these days.

You need control when in possesion thats the rule... There was seperation also with Ogre that is also a rule. but seems it didnt matter anyways..

but you still have to have controll of the ball the ball left his hand meaning downward presure does not come into it

no you don't. This is nothing but an old wives tale.. That is not stated in the rule book and has been confirmed before by Robert Finch. You can score a try by diving on the ball with your torso, ever tried to control a ball with your torso :sarcasm:

Here is the ARL rule book

Refer to page 5 Section 2 for clarification on grounding the ball. As per the rules, imho O'Meley's try was most definitely a fair try. Don't let the media mislead you with their false interpratation deliberately or otherwise of the rules.

See you dont need to control the ball when scoring of a kick its a different thing to when you lose control when in possesion and putting the ball down..

Please show me the section in the rule book that confirms that. I have shown the section in the rule back that contradicts your statement.

1 Those rules are from 2004...

2 Those rules you posted are on grounding the ball when:

GROUNDING means
(a) placing the ball on the ground with hand or
THE BALL hands or
(b) exerting a downward pressure on the ball
with hand or arm, the ball itself being on the
ground or
(c) dropping on the ball and covering it with the
part of the body above the waist and below
the neck, the ball itself being on the ground.

Find the Rules the NRL uses its a little more detailed then that
I wish you were the video ref there wouldnt be any stupid grey area in the rules..
