A must win this one.

But it's gonna be tough, I just get the feeling the Cowboys are gonna say tomorrow night let's finally start our season.

If we lose it's gonna be crazy hard to make the 8, really a must win.

Some late news which could mean a few things...

http://www.qrl.com.au/display.php?pg_id=3917

Without gun halfback Chris Sheppard, the Pride appeared a shadow of the side that won seven straight matches at the start of the season. Sheppard was reportedly unavailable because of a minor injury scare following the Queensland Residents match mid-week.

However it is understood Sheppard will be a surprise inclusion in the North Queensland Cowboys team to play the Newcastle Knights on Monday night.

So either is in the halves with Thurston or is replacing Thurston.

I'd say going in, Cows were pretty strong worded in suggest JT was cleared to play on Friday.

It would be a massive blow if JT didn't play tonight. I'm still very cautious as to whether he won't play. I dare say Shepperd will play five-eight for Abraham and Abraham will either shift back to the bench, or out of the squad.

I still don't think he's in great form, IMO Prince made him look good on Wednesday. Are you saying it's a massive blow for the reason it becomes less of a measured test for your boys?

Good if Thurston's out.

I reckon our defence can contain them without him. We need to win this, not only win but get our F/A better than those around us.

I'm saying its a massive blow because for some reason I get the feeling he's going to have a hell of a game if he does play. Good for us if he doesn't obviously :p

I'd love for Millward to have watched the game on Wednesday night and realised just what kind of player Thurston is with some pressure relieved by another creative player in the halves but I really don't credit him enough for that.

Sheppard is probably a precaution with Abraham staying where he is.
I'd love to be wrong though!

JT will play, wheather he should or not is another issue, it doesnt seem like a major injury scare so im not worried.

carried adv
1. To assist by propping up a teammate in order to have them appear better.
e.g. "Scott Prince carried Johnathan Thurston during State of Origin II in 2008"

An interesting bit of trivia...

Last year the Cowboys handed Newcastle their 7th straight loss at the back end of the year.. Now the Cowboys are trying to avoid that very feat when they come up against Newcastle tonight..

What are you on,Thurston was superb in game II...what an odd thing to say:S.
Scott Prince was the one that was below par,but both were great.

If you had any more bias, you'd get a seat next to Harrogan and Johns on the Footy Show

Not really...you're the only one I've heard that's really bagged Thurston.
What did he do wrong, and why was Prince so much better?

I think both performed well, but if you think Thurston was the one being carried you need to watch the game again.

Timmah i think youre the only one who thinks Prince was better than Thurston in game 2, have a look in the origin threads and youll find that quite a number of posters commented on how "ok" prince played and how brilliant Thurston was.

Prince did a good job in origin but it was clearly Thurston who ran the show.

These for example, none of them Cowboys fans.

i know he played well, offered a genuine option and all that... but i'd drop Prince, bascially coz he didn't play THAT well and the fact that i love the Hunt/Slater combo.

Prince didn't do much at all last night. Lockyer would take his spot if fit.

If he's ready then he plays in place of Prince IMO. Prince was average last night while Thurston was one of the best players on the park as he and Inglis single handedly ripped NSW apart in that first half. I also wouldn't be dropping Hunt or Slater as I thought they were used to perfection.

I dunno he (Thurston) outshone Prince in the Origin match

I didn't see much of either tbh, Inglis and the rest of the backline were far more dominant than either of the halves. I still think Prince popped up more than Thurston tbh. As I've said elsewhere about Mateo, in Thurston's case one sunny day does not a summer make and I don't think Thurston's praises can be sung until he strings together a few good games. Given the Cowboys position, he's going to have to.
