They could've gone 16-12 up with a penalty goal that would have given them a bit of time to catch some breath and they could've always missed it deliberately (a la Covell in 2007) to see a 20m drop-out.

I don't doubt that, I just don't subscribe to the idea that we're near certs to be written off. I had huge worries in the seasons prior after the loss of blokes like Thorn, Berrigan, Civoniceva, Webcke, and so on, but we are still yet to drop our bundle. We've comparitively had a massive turnover of players recently and things are yet to slip noticably.

Out of the current group that are leaving, the only two that sting for me are Ennis (a pest, but a dummy half that we desperately needed) and Kemp. Ennis will be replaced by Gorrell and Kemp, well, there are few lining up to take his place and I doubt any will dissapoint. Some sensational Toyota Cup players to utilise aswell if needed.

I'm sure we'll do alright, provided injuries are kind as is the case with all teams. But as I said earlier, looking this far out I wouldn't be surprised with anything and hold no clear expectations.

The biggest factor for next season is no Wayne Bennett , possibly the greatest coach of all time , Henjak might turn out to be a great coach ....

i can't believe brisbane didn't take the two points earlier

2 dumb decisions that probably cost the Broncos the game.

Taking the 2 points when Lima was binned and going for the try when Cam kicked out on the full.

Anways what a game, I had given up on the Storm, thought we were gone, in the words of Houston Rockets coach Rudy Tomjanovich......

....."Never underestimate the heart of a CHAMPION".

undeserved win for the stormers there, bad luck broncs, and I hated to see Lockyer so devestated, it was the worst I've ever seen him, and the one of the worst I've ever seen a player after a loss
It broke my heart:(

Storm dodged a bullet here,at least Noa has acknowledged humility here unlike a lot of other fans.
It was a pretty lucky win.

It'll be interesting how Storm play next week, was this a hiccup or are they starting to decline?

Good post JW. I haven't been this excited over an up coming season as I am now. For a couple of reasons. A new era at the Broncos. I hope Henjak is up to the job. And Bennett making his critics eat their words.

Bull sh*t statement.

Unless every try a team scores is down to a ref error there are no undeserved wins. If your good enough to pull a game out of the fire like that then you deserve to win.

This may be mildly controversial.

As good as Lockyer is, last night showed why, for me anyway, he's a babystep behind Fittler and Johns. In that last play he rushed right up on the Melbourne player with the ball, allowing them a (relatively) easy passage to the line due to the overlap. Lockyers attack is generally on par with the other two, but his defence is not and i feel in a similar big game situation, a Johns or Fittler would not have made the similar rash decision that made it so hard for the outside defenders. I also feel this is a result of his move from fullback to 5/8 that has exposed this flaw, and he could be remembered as an even better player if he stayed at fullback.

No argument from me, though I honestly don't put Fittler up there with Joey. Joey and Lewis the two best I've seen, with Sterlo, Fittler and Lockyer on the rung beneath.

All really different players and Lockyer is definitely one of the most versatile and cool-headed players we've seen. However, I still think the shift to the halves was the right thing for him. He was so brilliant at the back because of his speed and footwork skills... if he had suffered the same knee injuries in the course of his career, I think his worth as a custodian would've decreased substantially.

Regardless of anyone's opinion of "best", though, IMO he's a terrific player and I count myself as lucky to have been there in many, many great football moments he's created!

Though it must be said that Lockyer had one of his worst games in a few seasons.
It appears out of the four players involved in controversies this week,Lockyer got most affected.

Hard to say if it affected him to the extent that he played poorly...I think the pressure was on in the game and a lot of the good players made mistakes.

Agreed, And Joey is the best player i have seen since 95, with fittler second, altho i still think Fittler was the best captain.
And overall the halves have been a positive move for Lockyer, but his reading of the play in defence is just not at the same level as the other two
A very close third IMO of best players ive seen (altho i'd still select Brasher over Lockyer in a team i wanted to see play:D)

To be fair Melbourne kept Brisbane tryless in the second half.
Though I'm not sure if it was due to Brisbane stuffing up multiple chances...
