i have to agree with skeepe, the roosters disciplinary policies seem to be very inconsistet.
The Roosters have said that they will stand both players down if they have a case to answer. So there is some consistency there. IMO Friend will probably have his contract torn up if this is the case.
But it appears that a Manly under 21 player, threw ice at some people - and an ex Tiger player who failed to make the grade got the sh*ts and threw a punch.
The Roosters players defended themselves and a girl unfortunately got caught in the middle trying to seperate them.
If that's the case - that's not a reason to be stood down. The papers have not said that either player was intoxicated.
I will say this about the place they were at though. I wouldnt go back to Tank unless there was a compelling reason to do so. I was there reviewing a club event a couple of years back. I write reviews for a dance music website and I'd volunteered to attend the venue.
The venue was lovely - but the security is awful. It gets cold in June and these thugs they employ hang around the lobby, bored for hours on end looking for reasons to do something.
I was sitting down on the lounge close to the doors and a person jumped over the back of a chair to get into an empty seat before anyone else could grab it. He didnt knock anyone or hurt anyone or cause a scene. No drink was spilt no mess was made - it was a complete nothing event. No one even looked round.
The bouncers rushed across and grabbed him and me and threw us both into the alleyway. I was nothing to do with anything. I was quietly sitting in a sofa listening to music.
I was not allowed to grab a jacket (it was about 5 degrees outside) and I was dressed in a t-shirt. I was not allowed to take my bag from the cloak room and I was not allowed the courtesy of advising my friends inside that I had been manhandled into the street by a group of thugs.
They looked me up and down and advised that I would not be allowed to re-enter the premises until I had "sobered up". I had not been drinking as I was driving home. I was not causing any scene or doing anything to make people believe I was anything other than quietly minding my own business.
After half an hour - during which the head bouncer tried intimidating both me and the other bloke they'd thrown out, I managed to lie my way back in by telling the subordinate bouncer that the head bouncer had agreed to my re-entry. The subordinate, obviously scared of his mental case boss agreed relucantly. After all they were all rugged up and had been having a right old laugh at my discomfort.
The security at Tank is notorious for lying and picking on people as they know they can get away with it. After all, they're stone cold sober so who is going to question their version of events and they're there to "keep the peace". They do no such thing.
I'm not surprised the Roosters players complained of their treatment by the security at Tank. I have been a victim of their cruel power trips before and so have many people I know that have visited that venue.
I don't doubt the Roosters players did something stupid - but I would need far more than the word of Sydney's most notorious lying pricks to convince me they deserve hanging out to dry.
