i have to agree with skeepe, the roosters disciplinary policies seem to be very inconsistet.

The Roosters have said that they will stand both players down if they have a case to answer. So there is some consistency there. IMO Friend will probably have his contract torn up if this is the case.

But it appears that a Manly under 21 player, threw ice at some people - and an ex Tiger player who failed to make the grade got the sh*ts and threw a punch.

The Roosters players defended themselves and a girl unfortunately got caught in the middle trying to seperate them.

If that's the case - that's not a reason to be stood down. The papers have not said that either player was intoxicated.

I will say this about the place they were at though. I wouldnt go back to Tank unless there was a compelling reason to do so. I was there reviewing a club event a couple of years back. I write reviews for a dance music website and I'd volunteered to attend the venue.

The venue was lovely - but the security is awful. It gets cold in June and these thugs they employ hang around the lobby, bored for hours on end looking for reasons to do something.

I was sitting down on the lounge close to the doors and a person jumped over the back of a chair to get into an empty seat before anyone else could grab it. He didnt knock anyone or hurt anyone or cause a scene. No drink was spilt no mess was made - it was a complete nothing event. No one even looked round.

The bouncers rushed across and grabbed him and me and threw us both into the alleyway. I was nothing to do with anything. I was quietly sitting in a sofa listening to music.

I was not allowed to grab a jacket (it was about 5 degrees outside) and I was dressed in a t-shirt. I was not allowed to take my bag from the cloak room and I was not allowed the courtesy of advising my friends inside that I had been manhandled into the street by a group of thugs.

They looked me up and down and advised that I would not be allowed to re-enter the premises until I had "sobered up". I had not been drinking as I was driving home. I was not causing any scene or doing anything to make people believe I was anything other than quietly minding my own business.

After half an hour - during which the head bouncer tried intimidating both me and the other bloke they'd thrown out, I managed to lie my way back in by telling the subordinate bouncer that the head bouncer had agreed to my re-entry. The subordinate, obviously scared of his mental case boss agreed relucantly. After all they were all rugged up and had been having a right old laugh at my discomfort.

The security at Tank is notorious for lying and picking on people as they know they can get away with it. After all, they're stone cold sober so who is going to question their version of events and they're there to "keep the peace". They do no such thing.

I'm not surprised the Roosters players complained of their treatment by the security at Tank. I have been a victim of their cruel power trips before and so have many people I know that have visited that venue.

I don't doubt the Roosters players did something stupid - but I would need far more than the word of Sydney's most notorious lying pricks to convince me they deserve hanging out to dry.

Have been listening to my St Merge fan friends & family talking up this game like the roosters are going to get plastered. I hope they all get what's coming to them.

This one looks like a possible "brought down to Earth" match for the Saints, one of the ones usually noted for the top teams before the finals (then people bring them down until failure/success).

Should be interesting.

Yup, if this is anything to go by.

Mason believes Roosters can work a finals miracle
Jessica Halloran | June 29, 2009
WILLIE MASON says the Sydney Roosters have not lost hope of turning around their season and pulling off a football miracle to make the top eight.

After securing their first win in two months, the Roosters forward says the team will look to capitalise on the momentum that started with victory over Cronulla on Saturday night. The Roosters are bottom of the table but Mason believes the erratic nature of other teams may help the club rescue their season. Mason said the team's belief had been revived after ending their six-game losing streak.

"Everyone seemed to be working as a team for the first time this year and it felt good," Mason said. "We'll see what happens. If we play on the rest of the year with this sort of intensity and jag a couple of games here and there, who knows what could happen? Because a lot of teams are losing in a lot of streaks, they are not just win, loss, win, loss, they're going three or four losses, apart from your good teams like the Bulldogs and the Storm and the Titans. Everyone else seems to be dropping a few games here and there.

"If we can keep our momentum going, we are not going to lose hope yet. In a couple weeks we'll get Sia Soliola back, Mark O'Meley and a couple of kids we are blooding up through. If we keep on improving, as long as we don't go down from this and we'll keep on improving, we'll be happy. I think we'll compete with most sides. I think Cronulla has been on a bit of a roll. They've won four in a row and we've come out and put a bit of a show on."

Their 19-12 victory was their first win since round eight and it naturally brought a feeling of relief to the Roosters camp. The Roosters are on 10 points for the season but the teams in the bottom half of the top eight are only eight points above them.

"If we'd won a couple of games here or there and we didn't drop a couple of games here or there, we'd be in better stead for the semi-finals," Mason said. "But we didn't give ourselves unbelievable positioning."

In the post-match press conference Roosters coach Brad Fittler quickly answered "no spoon talk" when asked if that dreaded wooden kitchen utensil had been mentioned around the club in the preceding weeks.

It had been the toughest week of Fittler's short coaching career, following a drunken escapade in Townsville that cost him $10,000. So it was a relieved Fittler who praised the defensive efforts of his side.

"Maybe you've got to lose that many to feel this good," Fittler said. "They tried real hard. It was great to win. It was a big mental thing. I think our defence was the best it's been all year. I think Fitzy [Craig Fitzgibbon] was outstanding. Had a great impact."

Interim captain Fitzgibbon, who's filling in for the injured Braith Anasta, said that the feeling in the playing group was relief and that they had sung the team song with vigour.

"We sang it pretty hard," Fitzgibbon said. "We feel like we've been working all right and working towards something. We just don't know when it's going to come. It's been pretty heartbreaking the last couple of weeks. It feels pretty good but we'll come back to earth pretty quick. We play the Dragons on Friday night."

Seems to be a conspicuous omission there. If the Dragons need motivation they might paste this snippet up on the dressing room wall.

why did they have to go to Mason for a quote????

Think about it for a bit. I'm sure the answer will come to you. :p

(yes, I know it was a rhetorical question)

Damn straight they're pretty...

Isn't that a picture of Creagh after he was taken oput late and high by Setimata Sa in round 26 last year, and the referee ruled a play-the-ball despite the video ref having all the time in the world to review the incident while Creagh was being treated on the field?

What exactly is inconsistent? Cherrington was charged and found guilty and consequently stood down.

Let me guess, you're going to point to Mason + Myles in comparison to Fittler?

Gee Fellas,

I'm with Thommo on this one. I don't think it will an easy matter at all.
I believe we should win, but it may well be a difficult task and quite frankly, I will be pleased to get away with the 2 points on this one.

It will be atough game i think in the vein of our match with the Eels where they came out and blasted away for teh first 30 minutes and our defence didnt let them through. Anyone who says teh Roosters have momentum after beating the Sharks has got to be kidding themselves. The Sharks werent this hot team that some were making out and i think the Dragons would have to play piss poor football to lose this game

Sarp Dogz08. That isn't Fatty is it? I mean unless you hate us that much to tip against us every week. Whatever.

This is a game in which I believe we can not at any stage take lightly. Roosters will carry confidence into this game. It's funny I think Pearce had arguably his best game all season without Anasta. It's not a knock against Anasta, rather an endorsement of Pearce, he stepped up when the Roosters needed him. However with every passing week I believe we're playing more as a team than ever before. Saints 1-12.
