As much as I agree the Titans were the better team and Warriors defence was poor at times, there is no way that that 'try' wasn't a clear knock on. He got the first touch, he never had control of it in that jostle, then it went forward (if only a few cms) and touched Manu's hand. That is a knock-on by the rules, it doesn't matter how small.
His hand was at the front of the ball, facing back toward his own goal line, fair try imo.

The stripping rule is an absolute joke and needs to be fixed in the off season if for no other reason than to give us something that resembles consistency.

Titans deserved their win, but they were the ones that got the rub of the green in that area tonight.

Got back from the game not too long ago. It's a shame that all that's been talked about is the refs. The refereeing tonight is about what we've got all year.
The Warriors did well to mount a mini fightback in the second half, and was really worried for a few moments there.
Apart from the loss to the sharks, the Titans have been rolling toward the back end of the year and have beaten all other top 8 teams at some point...

First try- Rapira not square at PTB (wtf)
Second try- iirc came off a dud penalty AND clearly knocked on by Atkins anyway
Third try- dud penalty (strip)- you expect me to remember details now?

Since when does a penalty equal a try? f**k your teams defense must be sh*t to let in a try every time the other team gets a penalty. Wait, 4 penalties against you, 5 tries. How does that work out?

Suck it up princess. The ref wasnt doing the tackling, although I must say he probably would have done a better job.

Bravo

Poor decisions are made, it's the nature of the game refereed by human beings. Look at that dodgy 40/20 in the final minutes, if the Warriors scored there they could have easily turned it around. However the Titans had the defence to hold them out, they were the better team. Not to mention that some of the bullsh*t Manu is spewing is completely incomprehensible, he doesn't even seem to know what he's talking about.

Suck it up and learn to take a loss without rambling about penalties you can't recall properly. If you want to blame someone for the loss you can look no further than the 17 individuals who let the Titans crash over every time they sniffed the try line.

That first half killed the game. With a guy like Prince at halfback, the Warriors knew the gameplan: don't give them field position. And they executed very well, were disciplined in the ruck, but the refs had other ideas. Manu Vatuvei is spot on, the first 3 Titans tries came from un-earned field position.

Ok I've just had another look at the game and the second Titans'try seems perfectly fine, nothing wrong with the lead-up to it either. My bad.

What word do we hear time and time again as being vital to the outcome of the game? Momentum. Teams work very hard to get it and keep it because once a team gets a roll on they are very hard to stop. The Warriors had the momentum in the opening stages of the game, dominating the forward battle and scoring the first try. Then the Titans were gifted momentum on the back of quite a few dubious calls. Warriors struggled to come back and were forced to play catchup. I thought it was quite an even game otherwise.

Warriors are an average side with a massive amount of potential. They've done great to get to the finals considering their injury toll and playing roster, but they're not a premiership side, nowhere near it.

Finals are different to regular season. The Warriors have been consistent, but they don't have the class to rise that extra level required in finals football compared to the other teams.

They do have the class to rise that extra level but they have consistently struggled since Jones retired to get a playmaker that can break a game open.

Moloney is getting there and has good potential but IMO until they can get a 5/8 in the mould of Prince or Thurston then it is not gonna happen for them.

how people can compare the dodgy 40/20 in the last 10 minutes to multitude of crap calls while the game was still on the line is beyond me. spastics.

No argument Bear, the reffing has been as bad as any year I've seen this year and not aided by the micro-commentating but that's no excuse for the "cheating" sour grapes litany from some.

And Manu those tries came from the ability of the Titans to get the ball past the Warriors defence ... your blokes had their chances and didn't take them ... suck it up.
Thats why I also said Titans were the better side, which they were. It's just frustrating to see the stripping rule applied with neither common sense nor consistency

Titans were the better team and deserved to win. fair cop.
Their experience and the home crowd saw them home.
Warriors were off in some areas. The occasion seemed to get to a few of the younger boys, they'll be better for it in the long run. Fingers crossed for tonites results, I'm not ready for our season to end.

Maloney's going good mate. Happy with him. Seymour is organising well for the most part I feel as well. I feel this is why there was such interest in Feleti Mateo, someone who can create opportunities through ball skill. A lot of our tries comes off one off aggression by a guy like Vatuvei steam rolling his opponent, or a well placed kick (bomb or grubber). You are quite right, if there was a great instinctive half in say a Prince or a Thurston then it'd be a tough night at the office for our opponents. Such is life. We have a great talent in the NYC by the name of Shaun Johnson, who will be groomed next year in the Vulcans for a long term shot at halfback.

For the record, the turning point for me was the analus horribilis piece of refereeing by Gavin 'I'll gag on it if you want Johnny C' Badger when he penalised Rapira for being offside at marker, when he was clearly on side. A turnover just on halfway compared to defending from 25-30m out with a fresh set, had a massive impact on the flow of the game in terms of whom had the ball for the next 10-15 minutes. I would say Gavin made a guess, because there's no way he could have clearly observed that player and thought he was offside. Nevertheless, such is life, and this is football, and what happened beyond that (poor goal line D and errors in our own half) are sins we have largely not been committing these past 2 months. I don't really want to get into the habit of criticising Badger, I have a lot of respect for the bloke for one reason... most weekends he's the only referee still wearing the Sonny Fai band. Respect for that.

We were overawed by the occasion I suspect. I look at a guy like Ben Matulino... he barely seemed to make errors throughout the season, last night it looked like he had jelly for hands. Defensively he barely seems to miss, and usually in actual fact he gets dominant tackles. He got blitzed by Zillman. When a back runs in Matulino's channel generally they should be warned they're in a for a world of hurt, but he was off his game. I can't recall us dropping any kick returns this year. Last night we put down two. Manu Vatuvei had a great game going forward, but he panicked on a couple of offloads turning over possession twice in our half when his run had given us some momentum for that set. Ukuma Ta'ai's footwork defensively is usually very good, last night he did a lot of jersey grabbing as he lunged out of the line looking to overplay his hand to make an impact. It wasn't a matter of no effort, it was just I feel at times they were overawed and trying to overplay their way out of it. It'll be a very good learning curve for those players. IMO, if we get another chance, we'll be a lot better for the run. The mistakes we were making are not familiar mistakes for us in 2010.

If this is the end for us this year, I'm very proud of what we achieved. We were one of the favourites for wooden spoon. We had an enormous list of injuries (key ones at that). Yet here we are, with somewhat of a chance to get into week 2 of the finals. We are club champions, and we do have a good system developing good players for a good future.

Most of all, well played Gold Coast. Prince was too accurate. Friend was troublesome out of dummy half. Rogers is such a deceptive talent even at this stage of his career. And Zillman has always been an epic talent, hopefully he is now going to consistently deliver on his potential. They are well coached by a coach who is underrated. Good luck to Gold Coast for the remainder of the finals.

Just on the 40/20, I was at the ground and haven't seen a replay so I don't know what the refs were saying, but I'm about 90% certain I saw Archer signalling a knock forward (which it was) and not that it was in touch.

But the costly decisions were in the 1st half. Yes we should have defended our line better, but we should never have been in that situation in the first place.
