10-team AMNRL

Messages

This may have been discussed on another American thread (in the explosion of American threads after the big game) but I've read and heard of an expansion of the AMNRL to 10 teams next year. I had no idea this was happening and would like to know more. Is it true? If so does anyone know any details.

New teams are Boston and Baltimore.

Boston had a team in the first comp in America 7 years ago, and Baltimore has tried a few times to get a team together in the past - I remember there was even a Baltimore Lions website about 3 or 4 years ago.

Excellent. I remember te Boston Storm, they were a SLA team, while Baltimore were supposed to be part of the DC Slayers franchise originally with a view to their own club in the future. These cities are the logical new inclusions. In the past expansion has been followed by contraction or one or two clubs struggling for numbers. Hopefully this won't happen this time and after the Liberty Cup I think player interest will only grow.

Any info in clun affiliation? I'm not sure how the Mantarays will go now that Fitzy obviously sees no benefit in expanding the game internationally (see today's Tele). He reckons only PNG and NZ are worth the effort. What a chimp.

They need to get there game on TV and play on a proper size field which would make the game alot faster and give them more room for line breaks, then I think they could really draw people in.

At this rate the NRL will have to expand just so it can continue to offer partner clubs to AMNRL sides!

When are the going to get the Juniors up and running?

David Niu was saying after the match about some after school sports program they have got in on, that will reach 15 major cities around the east coast, and something like 40000 kids.

Man, 1 well organised international event.

6/7 games competitive, most press acorss the world RL has had in a long time, RL news plastered all through AUstralia media in November !!!

And now juniors in the USA.

What a great F*cking month this has been for RL.

Though I can't wait for Thomas "I'm a fan of RL too" to come tell us all the bad effects the tri-nations has had on RL.

Yes Dave Nui announced Monday night that the AMNRL will be adding two new teams to the league next year. Those two teams will be from Baltimore and Boston. Names of the teams have not been announced.

As for are sister NRL teams, we really do not work had and hand. I know the Bulls work with the Bulldogs, thier sister NRL team, in having palyers come and play for the states. But I do not know of many other clubs that have done the same. If you remember two years ago 3 guys, 16,16,17 years old, came over and played the 2003 season with the Bulls. They taught the Bulls players alot, and it was great for the Bulls team. However, I have not seen anymore then that. I think that the sister NRL club should help thier sister AMNRL clubs as much as they can. I think they might help in providing kits to wear also.

It would have been great if an article would have been written about both the Bulls winning the AMNRL championship, and the Bulldogs winning the NRL championship. This might have been the first time sister teams won thier league championship. I think it would have made a great story.

Also, I think it would be great if more NRL teams send over junior players over to play with sister AMNRL team. This would benifit both teams. Also, if players, and coaches could come over for vaca and put on a coaching clinic. That would help. Finally, some finacial support could go a long way also.

david nui should be awarded some kind of medal for services to rugby league. the guy has done more for international rl over the last 10 years than the entire nrl, arl, super league etc

Whoa! Don't f**k on the first date. Get to know the bloke first.

He's done well to get this comp up but you may be exaggerating a wee bit.

Let's how they think that way

What exactly do the partner clubs do for each other?

They share logos, jersey designs and names...what else?

I would have to agree with what hutch said.

However, Dave has had allot of work from many different people throughout the world.

I hear Thomas is not the full quid. Something's got to explain his posts.

Exactly right!!!

I would like to see what my team - The Dragons - contribute to their sister club the DC Slayers. I would like to see them give more than just a set of jerseys!! They could quiet easily provide logistical support as well as financial (Saints aint exactly a poor club) as well as creating a system where players with potential can come out to AUS and learn some skills out here. Looking long term who is to say that the US cant be another Queensland Cup and develop into a feeder system for the NRL. Players\staff could also be sent over there to help develop the systems and players of each particular club.

C'mon Saints get behind 'em and show us you care for more than just the clubs well being. Shows us you have the games intertest in mind as well. The 2 can go hand in hand!
