What a terribly disappointing game to watch from the perspective of a Cowboys supporter. Insipid really, was the play on offer from the North Queenslanders.
Luke Lewis on the other hand is a joy to watch, such a terrific competitor, and his efforts inspired his side in a very good performance.
There's very little that can be said after that game. MY only hope is that a portion of the blame can be laid at a disrupted preparation. The Thurston judiciary saga must have taken its toll on the man and club, and we are missing several key players.
These factors however shouldn't influence some very ordinary decisions being taken by members of the side. They simply are not playing to their strengths. It truly baffles me. How on earth do they expect to compete with the premiership contenders in this competition if they do not use what works best. Time and again I'm seeing really dumb plays.
Example - last tackle on the Penrith line James Segeyaro, a dummy half, chooses to send it to the short right side to a front-rower as first reciever. Sims then makes a pressured pass that he lacks the skills to make, it's intercepted and the play is then sent way downfield and Penrith are allowed good field position and are on the attack.
This is one of many from yesterday.
It's becomes more difficult to fathom because we seem to be getting worse as the season progresses. Neil Henry has some very serious work to do at this point. Payne looks like he'll be out for some time now, so Segeyaro will have a lot of responsibility on his hands. He's got to start taking some better options and our attack must be focused on areas where we can pressure opposing defenses.
A horrible game to watch but Penrith were deserved winners.
