Should be an absolute belter. As the other posters have mentioned, the Bennett factor ads a lot of interest, as does Boyd.

I will be interested to see how our backline goes with (presumably) Vidot and Stanley in the mix instead of Gaz and Boyd. Expecting Matt Cooper to have a big influence on how we go this season too.

Us by one, with Jamie Soward to kick the first field goal this year.
good call.

I'm supremely confident Newcastle will win easily. This Dragons team has been shown up as soft hearted at times, minus the talent of Boyd and the backbone of Bennett, I think they'll crumble tonight.

Knights got this.

 Wish I saw this before the game.

You did that all off the top of your head?

I attended a lot of those games and others i watched, i remember them all as good performances. I think a couple of them were losses and i might have got some of the rounds wrong but it's wrong to Tinkler gloss tonight over and say we played better tonight then we ever did in the previous 3 years.

Wayne Bennett has lost by a point in golden point in both of his new club débuts.

To all the arseclowns giving it to the Knights - f**k you all :)

To all the decent Dragons fans who aren't carrying on like prized geese, congrats on the win tonight, it wasn't a bad game for the first one of the season!

It certainly looks like those defensive structures Wayne put in place are still there, it was the defence that won the game along with the ability to actually hang onto the ball when we couldn't.

All the best for the rest of the year, see you again in Round 7 ;-)

But how do you remember all that?

Jeez they may have brought Boyd and by jeez he is a good player...but seriously losing De Gois is far worse than anything. Buderus is pedestrian (yes I know he was above average tonight) and rarely do 34 year olds play better after coming back. Gidley should play hooker where he is as good as anyone in that role.

Buderus >>>>>>>>>>> Daylight >>>>>>>>> Degois

This is 2012...not 1998! Sure 5 years ago, but gone are Buderus style hookers in the most part, and more nippy quick hookers are the go, De Gois was a massive reason why Newcastle did well towards the back end of 2011!

I thought Buderus was one of their better players tonight. Knights goal line defence was pretty shithouse

Well I am far from convinced the gamble on Buderus will work, but I guess we will wait and see. I saw more flair from Hilder tonight. I agree, the defence was abysmal.

Were Cuthbertson and Prior competing for who could be the softest forward? Both players seemed to get owned everytime they touched the ball .

Congratulations on the win Dragons fans. Your goal line defence was really solid although we really didn't ask enough questions of it due to a lot of dropped ball and not enough committed runners. There were a few points there where Bedsy had to go sideways looking for a runner...terrible. Your forward pack for large parts of the game got over the top of ours, and Hornby showed the necessary composure and resolve under pressure to keep his team in the game, which is something our halves will have to learn. I hope Matt Cooper pulls up well for the next round.

I think both teams will feature in the NRL finals series because it was a good first hit off and both teams still have a lot of improvement left in them. Bennett will get our structures right and Rome wasn't built in a day. Our new spine has to settle and get some rhythm going though.
