It is a ridiculous rule full stop and it either needs to be abolished or tweaked.

It was brought in to punish teams that deliberately kick the ball dead.

Yet, a team puts in a grubber kick that goes dead by less than a foot and the opposition gets a 7 tackle set.

If the attacking team is to get it back why the hell don't they just get a play of the ball where it hit the ref on the numbered tackle they are up to?
