So in Game 2 last year Hayne slapped the ball out of Thaiday's arms when making a tackle as Thaiday was diving over the line. Thaiday fell on the ball and grounded it, but it was deemed a knock on - did you deem it played at then?

Or did you agree with the rest of NSW fans in that it was a "loose carry" and a knock on?

Big difference between slapping it and ripping it out of a player's hand.

How so? If the rule is that any hand contact dislodging the ball in the act of making a tackle is considered playing at the ball - then there is no difference.

Firstly the Thaiday incident was in the act of scoring a try and I'm sure I don't need to go into any details about the ruling there.

Secondly, if a player slaps the ball and it comes free then clearly the responsibility falls on the carrier for not securing the ball. Morgan had both hands on the ball and tried to rip it away; it's very, very hard to see it as a loose carry if Morgan has to go that far to free the ball from Pearce.

The rule is that you are ALLOWED to strip the ball to prevent a try. It doesn't make it a knock on to the player stripped of the ball. If that player pounces on the loose ball it's play on.

And Morgan only touched the ball with one hand.
