Roosters, Souths, then daylight.

Just like last year, huh? Good Grand Final wasn't it?

It's the first week of March. The Cows always start slow. What happens this round means nothing, besides the two points that teams get for winning.

This is standard operating procedure for Thurston, and always has been. When he is on, he is on... but when he isn't - which is way more often than any Cowboys fan will admit - the bloke does a fantastic impersonation of the invisible man. Has never been one to win behind a beaten pack, either.

Thurston will almost definitely end up an immortal, it's just another media darling award. I don't even think Thurston is fit to lace Lockyers boots, let alone Johns. Cam Smith I would also have ahead of him. Inglis can still make a decent claim, too... although I feel he suffers a similar plight to Thurston in that he has a propensity to go missing. Thurston is definitely the best half of his generation - but it has been a generation of extremely lacklustre halves. Does that automatically earn him the immortal moniker?

It doesn't even matter if it's a coaching decision for mine, the greats know when to get the ball. I can't even fathom Johns, Lockyer, Fittler... hell even Ricky Stuart not getting the ball any and every time they wanted it. It's no excuse for Thurston - it's his team, the whole team is built around him. There's no excuses left for him, he's had good teams around him for years now... it's way past time to deliver.
:lol::lol:
ONe ordinary game & the circle jerk over how he is not fit to lace Johns boots starts .

Lol

& plenty of times goey went MIA when the chips were down ..
Clutching at imaginary injuries ...

Last night the whole Cows team was off .
Just seemed to be going through the motions .
Only positive is they got over the line a few times. But couldn't get points ..

Totally outplayed ,out enthused .

But only rd 1 ,k we never seem to be able to start the yr off well .

Can't wait to go to Suncorp in 2 weeks to see the Broncs v Cows Cripple fight .

I didn't even bring up Johns... but a list of halves who were better than Jonathon Thurston that aren't (yet) immortals isn't hard to put together without Johns -

Darren Lockyer
Allen Langer
Brad Fittler
Ricky Stuart

That's just 4 that I got to watch play. At a million a season, Thurston has a fair bit of responsibility to inspire his team when they are "going through the motions". As I said, there's just no excuses for him now. He's fit, had a full pre-season and has a good team around him - a non-performance like that in round 1 is just not really good enough in his pay grade. If he can lead the Cowboys to a premiership then he will gain a lot of credibility with me, but I'm not holding my breath.

I agree with this. JT is a great player but comparing him to those listed names is like trying to compare Jarryd Hayne to Clive Churchill.

The problem is your claim that players have been overlooked for immortal status in favor of JT.

That's just fantasy to suit your hatred.

Perverse comes out every time JT has a poor game, then he goes missing when JT carves up for the rest of the season.

It's been happening for years.

I think Cowboys have been a poorly coached team for their whole existence. No disrespect to Muzz who did a wonderful job, but he also didn't have the cattle that Henry and Green have had.

The really well coached teams over the last decade - Manly, Roosters, Souths, Melbourne, Bulldogs, and the Dragons under Bennet just have that bit more urgency, more discipline and mental toughness when it counts. The Cowboys have always lacked those intangible qualities that make a good team great. They really should have won a premiership by now while Thurston was in his prime and I don't think it's him that has let them down.

Starting do wonder already why I have fallen into the Cowboys this year.

They have always been a momentum team. Thats why they never seem to finish top 4. Last night they seemed unprepared. Mentality seems different to a truly top team that plays tough footy every week.

Chooks looked very good.

They Cowboys have never had the culture of a tough mentality.

It took about 10 rounds last year to develop it and then they choked in the last final.

It's a work in progress, that culture isn't built overnight. I feel Green is the right man for the job, hopefully they get their shit together sooner this year.

Sorry but being a bench player in no way equate with what Andrew Johns did in helping the Knights win 2 Grand Finals. 1997 GF, Johns called the play which won them the match. First half in 2001 he dominated the game and was instrumental in the Knights tries. In fact Johns was that good in the 2001 Grand Final he deservedly won the Clive Churchill medal.

The fact is that all the current Immortals played key roles in helping their first grade teams win premierships. Wally Lewis may have done it in the QRL Comp, but no one denies he was a dominant player.

When has JT been the key player in a team winning a first grade premiership?

Also if JT has been so good at Test level why has he not won the Harry Sunderland Medal?

Sorry. JT is a very good player, but he is no immrotal at this stage.

If JT, Inglis, Smith and Slater all become Immortals - as the media like to push as they tend to start sentences discussing them with "future Immortal" - then Lockyer, Fitter, Daley, Clyde, Lazarus, Langer, Sterling, Kenny and Meninga should become Immortals too.

All those players listed are absolute legends of the game - easily on a par with the current four QLD greats.
