If the Bears want a return to the big time, then they can't have any games at NSO. Maybe one trial game. The old North Sydney Bears need to make the right call this time around. The reason why the Bears are not in the NRL is because past administrators didn't make the right decisions.
They ended up going to bed with a rival. Eventually Manly kicked Norths out of the bed.
Norths had a number of options to explore. They could've jumped ship to Super League. Arthurson had close ties with Manly. And now looking back on it, the three Sydney clubs that joined were Canterbury, Penrith and Cronulla. All three are still in the comp today.
Norths preferred option was to relocate to the Central Coast. But the Bears weren't as resilient as South Sydney. Bears may have joined South Sydney by taking it to the courts. Souths are still in the comp. Another option is another merger, but this time with Balmain. Play home games at the SFS. Instead Balmain are in the comp in the form of the Wests Tigers.
And after the Manly divorce, the Bears missed out altogether. Manly are still alive in the NRL. Now there is talk of a possible expansion club called Perth Bears? Do the Bears want to be part of a club in Perth? Or some hybrid Perth/Norths team where they play a few games at NSO?
Unlike the past, will the Bears make the right decision?
