I think you're right about the QRL not allowing the Dolphins to use the same name.

You cannot deny that the game's administration is Sydney-centric?

If it wasn't then the Chairman wouldn't be trying to revive a dead Sydney club and force it on a market that doesn't want nor need it.

There's no reason for a Perth-based club to be tied with the Bears. It's just a narrowminded ploy by a corrupt and delusional Sydney-centric administration to make everything about Sydney. If you cannot understand why people outside of Sydney object to this then maybe you should ask your GP for a referral to a psychiatrist.
First boss of the indep arlc was from qld

exactly because they didn’t want to be perceived to be Sydney centric

heck even a former qld premier became boss as well. Shame he didn’t know the Cronulla sharks were an nrl side

Isn’t pvl Brisbane centric by adding a small qrl side to the nrl ?

V'Landys is looking to find ways to reconcile two very "at odds" groups within the RL community - the expansionists and the traditionalists - and I think he's managing to do a bit of both

Publicly declaring that 20 teams is the target is expansionist thinking - especially since Perth & NZ 2 are well in the mix & the concept of PNG refuses to lapse.. on the other hand, having investment in suburban venues, getting the Bears back, and practically promoting Redcliffe appeal to traditionalists.

He realizes he has to bring both sides with him, and each side may have to swallow the odd "dead rat" to get a compromise between the two sides - so be it.

This is the community we have in out sport. The superleague war (and its fallout) exacerbated that, and it's never been addressed properly until now.

The alternatives are pissing-off half the game's community by being too radical OR doing little-to-nothing and being left for dead by other sports.

Good lord. That’s too logical

There isn’t two sides

Donk is exaggerating because the bears joining with Perth has riled him up

pvl literally ruled out the bears being based in Sydney because Sydney has enough teams

You have to look it this kinda through a politics lens.

He's trying to build a "grand coalition" between the conservatives & the expansionists.

Coalition building requires compromises on both sides.
The politics he has to sort out is getting the 17 clubs plus nswrl and qrl ro agree to expansion

previous leaders haven’t been able to convince the clubs to do this

why are you so far up his ass? it's a little weird, if not suss...
better than living in denial, and objecting to every move he makes, it's a good thing to strive for better especially since he doesn't really have to, he could easily sit on his nsw racing throne, and watch us wither like RU or A-league into insignifice

He isn't doing that, he is just getting them onside for his own purposes, there's no grand scheme in solidifying a RL fan base, just gotta not ruffle the important votes

Mergers are comprises. I'm with the dolphins CEO, Perth Bears are a disaster waiting to happen.

Perth Bears wouldn't be a merger but a relocation. Same way the Sydney Swans are relocated South Melbourne, but the Brisbane Lions are the result of a Fitzroy/ Brisbane Bears merger.
No it's not.
But if it was, I could see that working if it was an existing club that had a license. Giving the Perth license to a reserve grade Sydney club is just plain ridiculous.
Surely you can see Perth people would not go for that?

Look at WB. he was a balmain fan but now doesn't follow the merger. They alienate fans.
At least the Perth Bears won't split their home games in the mad way that Wests Tigers are, trying to appease fans who prefer Leichardt, those who prefer Campbelltown AND those drawn to the modern facilities at Parramatta (including corporates).

The current proposal looks to be for one home game per year at NSO. ONE only.

Ideally it'd all be Perth home games, but one at NSO is tenable.

You can't compare Wests Tigers & Perth Bears (as the bid appears to be shaping up now) as there's increasing awareness from the Norths side that it needs to be Perth-focused.
