So they can continue to barely fill it every other week?

Majority of Sydney "fans" prefer to watch from their couch so I dont know why they are the most stubbornly against non Sydney teams, they'll still be on the same box in your living room
Wery wery good burn.... content is king tho, cheaper to keep it in a centralized location, dont you agree?

If the Dolphins do well this season, I think talks of an 18th team will get more vocal.

New Zealand #2 or a team from WA would be my pick.

On a side note, why isn't PNG getting a mention? Base them in OZ, possibly in the QLD market and appeal to one of the leagues most dire hard fans.

Dont start, ive said this for years...
Name them the Northern Hunters, get visas for png players, and base it out of Cairns, instant rivals to the cowboys, and only 4 hours drive north.... not much in cannibalizing talent from north qld

Another qld team,
Involvement of a PNG pathway,
Fifo a few games there,
lion mascot (northern pride)

Not really in the grand scheme of things, if youre refering to broadcasters needing to move equiptment, 1. Nein and Fox dont need us to be saving them money and 2. I'm sure both already have said equipment in every major city

Because as unfortunate as it is it wouldn't actually bring much more to the game than the PNG supporters already do

Whats the point in having a team represent an area it doesnt play in

I'd imagine your average PNG local couldn't afford to regularly fly to Cairns for regular season games and I'd assume any PNG TV rights would be worth close to nothing

I enjoy watching the Hunters in the QLD cup.

To me it's a no brainer but commercially, which is what the game needs to consider, it is probably littered with hurdles.

What I feel the NRL don't consider enough is the "second team" supporter base. Look at how many people want the Dolphins to do well. There is a whole supporter base who support a second team and will follow them over a season. Tap into that and I think it becomes a far more realistic prospect.

This works cross code as well, and is exactly what Melbourne have done

End of the day a "die hard rusted on fan" as vlandys would say is not your average person, most people who like one sport will also watch another, and are capably of supporting multiple teams

A team from Perth would look to emulate this, they aren't taking on the Eagles and Dockers, they compete in a different sport, they would be looking to make themselves the second choice team for those supporters

Perth provides expansion into non NRL area but needs lots of funding & NRL not going to do it. No backer has emerged.

Nz 2 was to be about player development but even rugby is struggling for players there. In terms of bringing money to game this bid does nothing. In fact could be another titans.

Tigers / jets brings financial strength, more Brisbane content to boast broadcasting money. Tackles afl in key battleground just like gold coast before.

Only one bid stacks up
