Maybe still think there’s a lot of jockeying before this is done

vlandys only said png was a potential

we don’t know what the wa govt will do in reply

the competition will force any bidders to offer more

I want png or nz2 but Perth has its own unique advantages too

I would say they all are the most likely to be the next three sides in any case.

It seems nobody thinks New Zealand is in the Pacific... 🤣

So is Australia and they are going to be based in Cairns aren’t they? I agree if you are going to do this idea (not that I think they should) but it would be better if they based this side in NZ

The only genuine threat to NZ 2 was Perth and not only did they not mention Perth but say Pacific.. not Indian Ocean..

I hope its the pasifika bears based in cairns just for the shts and giggles of the train wreck ahead. If Aus Govt are seriously offering $25mill a year infinitum I expect the risk averse NRL will take it. But this is news ltd and tbf there is a lot of hypotheticals in there. Last week they were saying 20 teams is worth $400mill, now they are saying one team is worth $375mill!

A "Pasifika" side will do very little to spread the sport's reach internationally or impact China's influence in the Pacific. I imagine that it'll be very popular with ignorant and bigoted people here in Australia and NZ though.

It's honestly crazy that the NRL, PVL, Kate Jones, and apparently Labour government, are openly exploring the idea of using race baiting as a marketing tool for their football business and political aspirations. It's also an insult to the people of the Pacific Islands to treat them as a single amorphous group rather than the collection of individual cultures and nations that they are in reality.

Shit like this being allowed back into polite society is disgusting, and the hypocrisy of the people doing it is galling.
Its very white colonial mentality for sure. They all have dark skin, they must all be the same. Lets create a team that somehow represents this diverse group of cultures and nations as one homogenous entity. Very colonial Australian.

There it is plan as day for everyone to see.
You stated clearly now that if it’s not Perth, you want it to fail spectacularly!

You're not a RL fan , just some self interested flat capper from north England.

Where's Perth Red?
He's supposed to tell us that Perth didn't get a mention because thay want it to be a surprise 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I uspect he was responding to a question directly asked by the reporter about a pacifika team. Maybe if he had been asked about Perth, Adelaide, Wellington or Brisane 3 he might have said somehting about them? The story is cleary slanted a certain way, which was towards the chances of a pacifika team.

haha, nope just that it will be very funny to see them f**k this up so we can all say 'told you so'. As far as whacky ideas go a Pacifika team representing many nations based in a small regional city of Australia is as good as it gets. The shts and giggles will be enormous on this one, I still suspect its lip service to the Govt as the idea is so whacky but it is Vlandys so you just never know.

One more time for the slow kids..

NRL chief executive Andrew Abdo has indicated an 18th team would likely come from New Zealand.
Talking of slow kids. That isnt what he said lol. That was Masters take on it. What he actually said was:

“There’s no doubt New Zealand is an enormous market for us,” he said. “Some of our best players in recent years have come from New Zealand and we’re certainly committed to investing in the region and seeing more talent unlocked and emerge through pathways systems. New Zealand is a critical component of our competition."
“In particular, the commission is focused on innovative measures to enhance the pathways systems and it’s something our clubs are focused on as well.”
“In terms of expansion, our priority is ensuring the Dolphins enter the competition successfully and a successful 17-team competition,” he said. “Beyond that, the commission is open to looking at 18 teams down the track and open-minded about the location of potential new markets.”
