A png nrl team is bold and visionary

it’s the biggest step the game has taken since New Zealand we’re admitted

and they will be a stunning success

If they built a 100k stadium it would be sold out each week

the game thrives off passionate fans
I dont disagree, Id love to see a proper PNG NRL team in Port Moresby. But whats being proposed is a very long way from that, it would seem.

It is what it is

how about for once we praise rugby league for being visionary

you know other sports we are competing with get praised for their efforts

But they did. They already told you.
You don't listen to what you don't want to hear.

So your evidence is an article based a year ago? There has been nothing since. You know it and I know it. I want a second NZ team like you but to suggest it is happening based on one article from a year ago seems driven based more on what you want to happen than what is seemingly occurring.

They (as in V’Landys and other figures quoted) also didn’t mention NZ it in the article that you quoted. The only reference beyond Pasifika was information that there was consortia from Perth, Adelaide, NZ, Pacifica, PNG and North Sydney interested in bidding and the QRLC chief wanting a Perth side. Thats it.

Anyway the back and forth between you and Perth Red is a pretty hilarious from the outside. You both seem convinced that your options are locks and ignoring what is actually written. I think based on what is happening at this time it is looking like you might be both disappointed.

I think everyone needs to take a deep breath and realise that although they'd like to announce an 18th team, it will also render Perth red obsolete and he will be forced to get a hobby.
The NRL are holding off until such arrangements can be made 🙂

The NRL are looking at 99 year leases... for franchises they change their mind on every 6 months?
Yes a year ago.

1. no, no ones said that. And the NRL grant is $17mill plus from this year
2. yes that would be a good thing with a caveat that its to sign players outside the current NRL rosters and for the first 5 years
3. Incorrect, we will have players of our own, eventually. We already produce players with no pathway and no money
4. no not solely, but to some degree yes, like pretty much every club in the NRL does now, including the dolphins
5. Not if they hire a decent coach and build a better club culture
6. Yes. equality over equity.
All six points sound like someone wants a handout
The only handout perth will get is a relocated lower grade club like the bears...
....nuff said

That article about NZ2 was10 months ago, pasifika team out out of cairns is now... plans changed since then purely coz the aus govt had gotten involved..
Had they not, maybe it would be a bears in NZ team or the orcas revival... but its not

His point was hypocritical. It is also not very likely, same as Perth, according to that article. It looks the Pasifika idea, subject to any massive changes, will get the go ahead

A Pacifika team is the single dumbest idea of the lot. Central Coast Bears would be better.

PNG I could live with but they should have their own team if/when they are ready not lumped in with every other island with a generic label slapped on. Fiji the same although in all likelihood a 2nd tier team would be the best they could hope for. As for Tonga & Samoa I’m sure broadcasters would love having to cover those game assuming their stadiums are even up to scratch to host an NRL game.

As for Cairns you could count on one hand how many people will ditch Cowboys or their current team for a Pacifika side based there.

That is all before we get to the questions of home game split, who “can” sign for the club and who would sign for a club travelling every week.

I’ve heard some dumb ideas in my time following RL, this is up there with the dumbest.

NZ and Perth make the most sense. I don't understand who will support Pasifica if they're based in Cairns?
Based not played... based means they train and live in cairns as a playing group, the games will be Fifo to the islands

So is Australia and they are going to be based in Cairns aren’t they? I agree if you are going to do this idea (not that I think they should) but it would be better if they based this side in NZ
I thought that too originally, but if the aus govt is tipping in for it, theyll want it based on aus soil, its basically a team that will tour the islands, they see it as the west indies of cricket

You think the federal govt putting a minimum of a quarter of a billion dollars into rugby league is something we should pass up ?

I don’t think it is the greatest idea either; I was referring to the back and forth between a few posters when neither NZ 2 or Perth are going to get the next side

New Zealand is the biggest country in the Pacific...
And it's the media who gives the favouritism.
All V'Landys said is " out of respect to the government, they'll look into it "
Not a hope in hell.
The writings on the wall ffs

Biggest how?

This Pasifika nonsense has gotten out of control 🤣
Albanese talked it up during talks with PNG..( almost uncanny for a politician to give lip service like this 🤣)
Then V'Landys said " out of respect to the government, we'll look into it"

Great quote from Anchor man " wow that really escalated fast "
🤣🤣🤣
There's no " Pacifika "
Is it even a word? It ain't a place and sure as shit isn't a rugby league team!
Please stop 🤦‍♂️

I told you so over a year ago this is happening, all those cowboys fans have been upset about it, coz they expected cairns to be part of the "north qld" crew
Its happening coz its what pvl wants, it will create another semi qld derby, and link pathways from all the Pacific islands aswell as showcase the sport to the islands... they want to be bigger in the pacific than union
