It wasn't that long ago the AFL toe sucking media stated the AFL was making huge inroads in Qld and would have more participants.
Yet recently Kelly Underwear on the Fluffsiders admitted the Dolphins have certainly impacted the NRL in Brisbane and shown the AFL how strong the game with their following is in Qld.

The Lions have their niche they, you and the AFL should be thankful they got the crumbs off the Brisbane sporting market table .With GWS in Sydney thy couldn't get the crumbs, they had to lick the plates.

The Magic Weekend showed the popularity of the NRL and the professional way it was staged and promoted.
The Gatherers' weekend by comparison showed games being played all over the place in a cluster*ck manner ,very similar to the game.
Gather Round was never going to work as nicely as magic round.

League 80 minutes, AFL 120 minutes. You can run triple headers At magic round as that’s 240 minutes of play at Gather round it would be 360 minutes. Plus the AFL accommodate a 9th game.

Also there is the advantage of Brisbane being still reliably warm at this time of year or it is in the eyes of us southerners so it makes flying up more attractive. I haven’t been to magic round yet but had mates fly up last year and love it

If the state government (QLD) is still keen on building a 20k-25k stadium in Ipswich, I say go there. Once the Refurb is done on the Sunshine Coast stadium Dolphins can head there.
Broncos 12 games @ Suncorp
Dolphins 6 games @ Suncorp 6 games @ SSC
Jets 4 Games @ Suncorp 8 games @ Ipswich
Plus the titans it pretty much covers SQLD.
Exactly strengthen a strength the Dolphins have been great for the game.

While the AFL try to push north it’s because they have to in an effort to grow the game and get more people playing the sport.

As touched on earlier the NRL can recruit out of the pacific islands NZ and England so there for don’t need a GWS type club trying and failing to grow the foot print of the game. They can put a team in a strong market recruit the players and build a rivalry that adds to the game. The first Broncos Dolphins game was great to watch.

The Dolphins playing half there games at Sunshine Coast would be a shitful idea, and hugely impact on there crowds and corporates.

But its worked so well for Dragons and Tigers, why wouldn't you replicate it a third time?

Perhaps rather than being some bloated smart arse sitting in Perth and actually have some idea of what you are talking about might help your argument. Just hating the dolphins because they jumped in front of Perth is malevolent spite. Nothing new to see here.

He also hates them because he claimed they were the wrong team from Brisbane & the NRL got it wrong ... again
Now they're making him look like the stupid c**^T that he is

the Dolphins representing Sunshine Coast is like GWS representing Canberra... basically people on the Sunny coast will go to Dolphins games just because its NRL.

When Sunshine Coast gets an upgrade to 20k it could work alright for the Dolphins for some games. Not 6 games though, maybe 2-3, Redcliffe 0.

so which is it? AFL are no threat and therefore no need for another Brisabne club, or they are carving out more than a niche and we have to tqke the fight to them? Its so confusing....

Yeh you are right the two weekends showed the difference between the two sports. NRL was far superior yet earnt a fraction of the money.
You don't pay attention too much, understandable you are confused. I've stated in previous post Western Brisbane NRL team should be on the expansion agenda. Doesn't have to be next cab off the rank but worthy of consideration at some point in time.
More to do with a growing Brisbane and catering for a rl population. At one stage people were moaning and groaning about the lack of Qld teams ,just like you constantly bitch about not having an NRL team.

If it's good enough for your fumbling mob to plonk a team of uncoordinated beanpoles like GWS in Sydney to take the fight to the NRL in an area that couldn't give a rat's glory hole, then considering an NRL team in a huge rl area is not as silly

Ok tell me the final figures Einstein ,ticket revenue (whether AFL kid's freebies involved), merchandise revenue, sponsorship revenue, State Govt grant, sponsorship box revenue. Then when you've done that compare it to 9 games to 8 and divide it into the cost involving players ,team officials, travel costs.
And the sum of all fears the TV ratings.
Unlike you I don't have qualms about decisions the NRL make which intend to achieve max revenue. If that means Perth I am ok with that.
You carry on at times like a male Karen bitching about every decision, because you don't like it ,yet it may well be good for the game.

Fully onboard with this, except.

Dolphins 8 games @ Suncorp 4 games @ SSC. Their success has meant that playing at Dolphin oval is too small for the demand.

4 games at a stadium the size of Brookvale with no corporate amenities, that's crazy.

1 or 2 tops.

It would also be mental for 3 teams in SEQ (excluding the Titans) to play out of 4 venues.

Even if they were coming last this year, a 10k stadium is too small for a Brisbane team.

If SSC stadium has to be used by the Dolphins (would prefer sydney teams to take games there against low drawing opposition), then really should be limited to 2 games that likely won't draw more than 20k at suncorp. Maybe an out of form raiders or knights for example.

Agreed, but once it is redeveloped it will be sufficient. But not for 4 dolphins home games, when the whole point of a second brisbane team is to utilise suncorp every week and it is proven the dolphins can draw a crowd.

Mind you, this is on the assumption that Sunshine coast stadium gets the upgrade's talked about. Think I saw a video of it on the forum a quick google search will show the future stadium.

4 Dolphins games then also leaving it open to Sydney clubs such as Souths taking odd games up there to utilise it too. Sunshine coast is a growing area good that RL maintains a presence.

20K capacity with likely good corporate facilities.

Perfect for 3-4 Dolphins games, sell a sunshine coast membership etc.. Also perfect for Sydney clubs to take NRL games to as well.
