as for the article, new week new favourite for club 18 lol. We’ll just add to the pile of who Vlandys is keen on. There’s only poor nz who haven’t been mentioned this year as favourites!

This isnt meant to sound flippant, but Its easy to have great improvement when coming off a low base - the AFL does this with GWS and Gold Coast for example. And while that may seem true, it also implies that the AFL is just going to sit around chillin with the NRL does their thing.

In 2013 for example, the NRL had 223,000 club members, at most theyve added 160,000 since. The percentages look great though.

Since 2014, the AFL and NRL have had near identical increases in Membership - by percentage - NRL 50%, AFL 49%

Afl has culture of club membership which NRL does not. I remember when the big bash went to channel 7 & their commentators who also worked on afl started banging on about franchise membership. That's the room for improvement

this was true 10 years ago, it is far less true now. Clubs have been pushing them for 13 years now. Membership levels are pretty much exactly where the AFL clubs were after 13 years (in 1997).

Theres always room for improvement in general terms. Seven have been an AFL broadcaster for most of the last 50 years. Theres always been a sense of them working together as a partnership, where Nine and the NRL have been uneasy bedfellows for some years now.

I can relate to him being sceptical with anything coming out of nrl hq. Our hopes over here have been dashed before.

I wouldnt. I mean the Eels published numbers on the NRL season are from last season, and one or two others were behind the official club tallies on their sites with nothing at all for the Bulldogs and Titans despite the clubs releasing information in the last few months.

The bid to become the 18th NRL team has been thrown into even more uncertainty as Perth have shot into serious contention.

New West Australian premier Roger Cook has reportedly wasted no time in office, after making a phone call to independent commission boss Peter V'landys to begin his efforts to make sure Perth is the next side in the NRL, according to a Daily Telegraph report.

Following the on-field and off-field financial success of newly instated Dolphins in the NRL, Perth's interest has skyrocketed especially after another successful origin match in the city last year, followed by a NRL double header in the coming weeks.

It seems Cook's cries for a team are not falling on deaf ears as V'landys is already giving the proposal serious thought.

"Perth has to be high on the table now, especially with a premier so passionate about wanting to have a team there. They warrant serious consideration," V'landys told the publication.
