Haha he literally said if nrl wants to match afl it needs clubs in the 5 metro markets

“If we want to compete with the AFL, we have to be truly national and be representative in every state.”

Lol, so where has anybody specifically said afl get more broadcast money because they have 5 metros?!

Politis knows. Need a club in every metro capital city if you want the big $’s. Or maybe it’s just pure coincidence the afl pull our pants down every year when it comes to revenue?

Yep, so nobody has said afl gets more broadcast money because of 5 metros.

I think longer games and 4 qtrs allowing more ads to be sold must be a factor
They are for fta, not for sponsorship and pay tv. Although our counter balance to that is bigger audiences and origin so go figure.

doesn’t help of course that ch9 has driven fans away, I mean we couldn’t even get 200k viewers across 5 capital cities on thursday night on fta!

He didn't say anything about TV. Nobody with any expertise in the area has said that's why there's a difference.
Haha, yeh of course he didnt include tv in his thinking of how nrl can match afl reveneue, I mean it’s only pays the lions share. doh.

There's a $300mill revenue gap with AFL (nearly $2billion in last decade difference), that will grow significantly over the next 5 years. Thats largely because we sht the bed in 1998 and abandoned the ARL's metro growth strategy and retreated back to two states with a smattering of interest elsewhere. Regions are nice to have but metro is where the money is.

NRL clubs are getting $17mil a year, thats only $9mil a year less than the AFL expansion teams that need propping up (which out of interest still manage to generate more football club revenue than most heartland NRL clubs). I'd take proper national expansion, an extra $40mill a year price tag on that and an extra $300mill a year revenue into the game wouldn't you?
AFL has been well run for the last 25 years. We've had a civil war and have been run poorly for 25 years and that's all the gap is? Now that we are getting our act together it will close and we have the geographical advantage to do so. They would kill for it to be the other way around which is why they've wasted so much money over the years on the Swans, Lions, Suns and Giants.

Once our national footprint is in place we'll have similar revenue growth without pissing billions down the drain to achieve it.

Nice thought but in all honesty how long do you think it will be before we realistically have a club in Adelaide, let alone 2 in perth and melbourne? They are decades, and possibly too far, ahead of us for a very long time Id suggest. 2025 the pain only gets worse.

Shame you are so dense you cant actually understand what is bloody obvious to the rest of us!

That nobody who knows anything about TV has said anything which backs up what ur saying. In fact broadcasters have said there should be more south east qld teams.

Lol, Adelaide makes no difference to NRL. Like I said in previous post, extra Brisbane teams are probably more lucrative than Perth as well.
