I was only ten so didn’t quite appreciate I was seeing a once in a century event! It confused me why so many grown men around me were crying at the end! Both in happiness and sadness depending what colours they had on lol the city wass insane lowering upmtot the final ith every house and shop decked out on red and white or black and white. Someone put a bog sign on the motorway out of the city saying “last person put please turn off the lights”. They reckon over 100k Hull people went to London that weekend out of a city of only 150k!

lucky to then have seen them Win championships, numerous trophies and see them beat the qlnd state touring side in the early 80’s.

Must admit I shed a tear when we won promotion in 2007 and got into SL for first time in , I thought the club would never get back. I was really drunk that night and rang into radio Humberside and was drunkenly shouting my joy live on radio lol
See when you want to post positive stuff like that it’s excellent

rugby league can be such a wonderful game for so many people

I really hope super league can sort itself out there’s a decent nucleus there of strong clubs there just isn’t enough money in the game so everyone is fighting for scraps

the hull derby I went too was one of the best experiences i had in rugby league

up there with an origin or gf for atmosphere

I was feeling a bit homesick by the time I got to hull I was alone at a pub then I looked at the wall and it was team lists for hull kr and hull fc and it lessened the homesickness seeing the rugby league connection

I’m a life long rugby league fan but I’m an also a realist. I get some people don’t like that but hey ho, my opinions, take them or leave them.

yeh hull derbies are nuts, haven’t yet been to origin at suncorp but it’s on the list.

You haven’t seen rugby league australia at its peak

it’s getting there

it was untouchable in the early 90s

we haven’t had strong leaders that understand the politics of the game and the problems it faces and have the balls to force through change

vlandys is just catching up on 30 years of really bad leaders

Yeh talking to some old timers here I can’t believe how big rl was in late 80’s early 90’s in perth. No idea how it got so big here but geez it’d be nice to see it back there one day.

Yeh we went from 10k players to 800! What I can’t understand is knowing how successful rl was here why the games leaders would continue to just ignore it for more than 25 years?
Surely at some point someone would think, well it was big before we can make it big again.

After super league the game was afraid to expand

look how long brisbane 2 took

people just associate expansion with failure (wrongly)

you’ve got to remember union was stealing a lot of players due to a low salary cap and clubs were losing 50 million pa

it’s a different situation now

we can't squander the good crowds/ratings like we did the early 90s.

expansion must be cautious and measured so we don't end up with a blithering shitheap

Gills’s sycophantic love child hates the nrl and only looks for negatives

It really is or should be simple.

AFL announced the total package. Hence it includes inflation

NRL announced 'just over $400m for the current season'

meaning one stays at a point. The other grows

Haha after alL that you still dont understand what an aVg means! When nrl say a $400mill avg that doesn’t mean starting at $400mill in 2023 and going up 7.8% a year for 5 years!

nrl $400mill avg (for sake of argument).

2023 $384.2
2024 $392
2025 $400
2026 $408
2027 $416.2

afl $530mill avg

2025 $498.8
2026 $509
2027 $519.4
2028 $530
2029 $546
2030 $556.9
2031 $568

Gould: "I don't think relocation is the key. If it's expansion that we need to get a greater footprint, I think we need another team in Brisbane, a team in Perth, which is an ideal sort of timeslot for television and broadcasters as well.'
Didn’t you say you had no evidence from channel9 wanting another team in Brisbane ? Lmao

gws lasted 2 seasons in the actual greater west of Sydney
