Scg members like I told you last time

if in doubt look at the members and ladies stand

all those old codgers showing up for their free tickets and coffee

membership figures are bs best not to use them as a measure of afls popularort
yes of course every member with no interest in the sport is turning up every game to watch a team they dont care about. Makes total sense!

Afl gets smashed in the ratings

you can’t be a bigger sport when your nearest rival beats you by 30 percent

They make an absolute motza more than us and have done for a long time.

I’d rather be in that position then have a lot more people sitting in a lounge room.

I thought you found this boring ?

they’ve always had more teams than us

by their tv ratings have fallen off a cliff whilst nrl has grown

nrl clubs have more assets than afl. The most profitable club in Australia is the broncos

again back in the real world AFL has 2 professional clubs and 70k members in Sydney with 40k or so attending games across the two clubs. Pick up any sydney paper any day and there will be AFL news in it. Turn on the evening news in Sydney and it will have AFL mentioned in the sports section. Is it huge? No. Is it a reasonable presence in NRL heartland? Yes. Compare that to NRL in Perth or Adelaide, even in Melbourne. Not even close.
Storm Rugby League club, despite the media black-out in Victoria you describe, ~ 30 000 members and averaging 18 000 + at games, I`d say that compares very favourably with the Sydney f-ball clubs, especially as you say what they are up against.
You are in severe danger here of being seen to talk the game down again.

some, at a club level due to pokie machines yes. As a code no, AFL has a much greater asset base than NRL currently. West Coast Eagles have a much bigger asset base than Brisbane Broncos for example, without need of a pokie den. ($108mill v $23.6mill equity)

Storm have done a great job in the face of the negligence of the NRL in investing and growing the game in Victoria. If NRL had spent even 10% of what AFL has spent in the respective states the game would be booming there.
But as a Storm member Id say you have rocks in your head if you think Storm are as big as Swans or that RL in Melbourne is even close to the presence of AFL in Sydney, despite the Storms on field success over the last 15 years.

Their revenue is a lot higher than ours. That is a fact isn’t it?

Yes the discussion is boring. I don’t see the point in arguing against facts or evidence.

Also, I don’t really the point in the discussion in any case. The sport is going well and we have options for growth. It is just a boring d*** measuring contest in a lot of ways. Learn from them if we must but who cares otherwise.

Nrl clubs have hundreds of millions in property assets outside leagues club

Nrl net asset position is similar to afl given their debts

sorry

18th team people... none of the AFL comparisons mean shit...
They are in areas we dont care for, we are in areas that they do, its simple, the fact they've resorted to expanding to Tasmania of all places says a lot, instead of tripling down on perth or going to canberra... god knows they wouldn't have any fans in NZ...
Main issue is the NRL and its ARLC are there to grow the game to protect each of its clubs future..
If the next team comes out of perth, nz or png, wherever, the NRL is going to make sure it becomes as secure as the other 17 clubs, regardless of what other sporting codes are doing on those areas, be it RU or AFL... hence why i dont see another ViC team, or a SA team any time soon.. it will be in an area that RL is seen as no.1, not a random city that we see as underrepresented

As I’m sure do some afl clubs. Like I said west coast have over $100mill in net equity on their own Without a pokie den.

and no, not even close. Last year net assets were
afl $314mill
nrl $193mill

afl assets $743mill
nrl assets $285mill

most of afls liability is in the loan for marvel which they expect to have paid off within next 5 years.

Sure thing. Nobody other than you or Perth Red seem to care about the comparison too much.

I only complain about the TV deal we got last time because I think we got shafted. Other than that the game is in an exciting position so long as they make the right decisions.

Honestly it’s funny seeing Perth reds head explode

it’s just an internet forum which 20 people are commenting on it’s not going to change anything
