So what is the general consensus for when team 18 will be admitted 2027 ?, with team 19 what the same year or 2030 ?.
Png and Perth will be announced next year

both will be included before the next tv deal starts so they can sell those clubs and get more tv money

2025 was the centenary of png indep but it seems rushed

team 20 will be nz

Depends on where they are going, I think the 20 teams by 2032 is not possible.

2027 for the next seems possible. I have asked this question before but how long to set up decent pathways in WA? You need to work backwards with teams in new areas
Locally probably 3-4 years. Back in sg ball, invest in an elite u17’s comp in WA and a WA nsw cup side. In all likelihood we will also have at least one partnership on east coast and maybe nz with an established pathways club which will obviously be more developed and producing straight away.

Dolphins promised to spend 1 or 2 millon pa ( can’t remember which) on juniors

that’s new money
That is min of what every nrl team spends, nothing new about it. Any club coming in will have to be spending that on its elite pathways programs.

Nicho Hynes' issues when coming through the grades are known, There would be many more in that situation that just stop playing
Nicho has had those issues since he was a kid, as an outsider I saw his dad Mick virtually bring him up, take him to all of his junior league/junior reps, touch footy etc, I only saw his mum every few years if that.

Kade dykes could help him out as a halves partner

No this was new spending

not every club spends it either

Warriors and Storm are perfect like for likes

Next year Warriors will have

Harold Matts
SG Ball
Jersey Flegg
NSW Cup

There is some costs there, air fares alone

Storm still will run

SG Ball
Flegg

Are linking up with the Bears, That gives them access another 40 or so Matts and SG Ball players

On top of the QLD Cup links.

That is the sort of access to juniors a new club needs hence why that side is important

As usual there was no detail on the what and how. If it’s new or if most of it is what they were already spending as Redcliffe. This is what Vlandys actually said:

“It will be a condition of the licence that the Dolphins spend $2 million every year on participation and growing the women’s game in Southeast Queensland.”

I highly doubt you will ever see a WA NSW Cup or QLD Cup side because of the costs involved, this is why any WA side will be involved in a partnership and not go it alone.
The top players from the WA competition like Duane Butler (Fremantle Roosters), Paora Kemp (Fremantle Roosters), Kade McDonald (North Beach Sea Eagles) and Joell Irvine (Joondalup Giants) could possibly make any squad (depending on their ages) when a team is admitted.
A NRL WA team would be stupid not to try and entice local players like Josh Rogers (Broncos) and Royce Hunt (Sharks) back into the fold.
If WA goes with the Bears, current NSW Cup players like Jesse Marschke, Ben Stevanovic, Kurt De Luis, Junior Pauga and Tui Katoa would and have adapted to NRL level.
If a WA team were given two years to prepare they would have even more of a chance to perform against the regular NRL teams.

A NSW/QLD Cup isn't needed. There are options here.

Newtown for example, Just need to get it played in schools. Get the government to make it easier for kids to come over. Plenty of kids on the islands would jump at the chance for an education and a chance to play NRL.

The flow on strengthens the State League an SG Ball side is much cheaper

It is costly but I’d be disappointed if we didn’t have a WA nsw cup side as well as an east coast partnership. We need to be developing locally and that will require at least one jnr age side in a nsw comp and a nsw cup side. The plan has always been to have a WA nsw cup reserve grade side.
Again this is where expansion should be about growing the game, not just adding a team to nrl.

I can’t see the old reds model being used in modern days, we brought over about 50 players from east coast and scattered them through the WARL clubs as well as running an under 18’s and reserve grade in nswrl comp.

I guess a hybrid model of investing in nrlwa clubs and upping the comp standard here then taking the best and putting them in an east coast nsw cup team could work but ultimately probably be more expensive than flying over a nsw cup side from perth,

It was nswrl at time, no idea there isnt any lists I can find. Probably was less of a fixation back then!
The WARL comp was pretty strong as well back then so maybe players stayed more? clubs here were paying players and setting them up with jobs, seen some adverts in Sydney papers of wa clubs advertising for players!

So 10k registered players was to produce semi pro players for the Perth comp

right got it

and you want the arlc to spend more on grassroots in Perth

Every club has a NSW Cup or QLD Cup side, some have three such as Melbourne next season, the Dolphins.
I overheard that the Bears were talking about a pathways through the islands (Fiji, Tonga, Samoa, PNG, Cook Islands) the other week after their NSW Cup loss to South Sydney as I mentioned on here the other week.

Not exactly.

Cowboys and Titans want stand alone feeder teams.

That leaves 4 teams there, Sharks are looking at their own stand alone.

hence why the Jets were talking to Perth.

Sydney based teams are using the rich North Shore schools. So plenty of spots to put the kids

NSW Cup sides like Newtown and North Sydney actually pay their NRL partners, I can’t see Cronulla being able to afford to run their own NSW Cup side anytime soon.
QLD NRL sides are looking at having their own QLD Cup sides but they are being met with solid opposition, not sure how this will work out as there are different logistics involved between the NSW Cup and QLD Cup competitions.

NRLW sides cost more than a NSW Cup and Sharks have one.

QRL can't stop it. They can send their fringe guys to what ever side they want

NRL clubs actually get rewarded $$$ for having a NRLW side there are no benefits to having your own NSW Cup side if you don’t need one.
