Shane Richardson wants another QLD side - who would have thought.

Seriously it’s embarassing to hear people so scared of another sport. Fumbleball would love us to put another side in Queensland - it shows we’re terrified of them.
They can use whatever excuse they want

if easts tigers get added to the nrl I’ll be cheering

just like stopping China is the excuse used for png

During breaks in the on-field action, Mediaweek caught up with Head of Nine Queensland, Kylie Blucher, and Head of Strategy WWOS, Simon Fordham.
For Fordham, making the most of this momentum looks like bringing more games to the region – and potentially another team.
Fordham: “We’re really committed to working with the NRL in growing the competition, and Queensland is a big part of that. We think there’s room for another team here in Queensland, and the Dolphins have been the perfect example.
“The more games we can get played featuring Queensland teams in Southeast Queensland, the better. The engagement in rugby league here is just next level, and the energy of the crowds has a material impact on the quality of the broadcasts that we make. It helps create atmosphere, it makes the commentary team rise, it makes the production team rise.”
'We think there’s room for another team here in Queensland,'

wow thats a massive endorsement lol
Meanwhile the bloke actually making the decisions said:

"Perth has to be high on the table now, especially with a premier so passionate about wanting to have a team there. They warrant serious consideration. If you've got a government that's going to get 100 per cent behind you, you've got a run-up start. "

and the clubs continually vote for Perth as the priority.

Sure and fumbleball will eat it up.

It has no bearing on them at all and you have said to everyone and to them that we can’t compete with you.

Afl isn’t losing any sleep over a small nrl team in Perth
And it shows how insecure our sport is that people within it are still scared of AFL in Brisbane despite now having two teams lol If you wanted to stop AFLs growth in Brisbane, if you can even, then it would be better funding the QRL twice as much and making the hostplus cup a genuine competition.

Our games so full of contradiction. One hand AFL are wasting their money and going nowhere fast in NSW and Qlnd, on other we have to have more NRl teams there AFL will take over. Which is it?

They aren’t really scared

they are using it to push their cause ahead of Perth

They wouldn’t be losing sleep about any choice we make. They are a different competition with different viewers and consumers.
Sure they are

they are triggered about Vegas and the dolphins

they just changed their draw because of it

fumbler players are wishing they had the balls to take a game to Vegas

Pfft if the Dolphins had such an effect as you say then why did their (Lions) crowds go up?

This same argument has been used constantly about the Swans.

Interest and crowds fluctuate solely on how a team goes. Doesn’t matter what sport we are talking - fumbleball or NRL.

Have a look at the crowds for Penrith and the Broncos this year and compare if to when they are not going well.

We are at the point now that NRL and fumbleball won’t die. They are too entrenched, they make too much money, their crowds are too big. Therefore, I don’t believe that a Rugby League side based in Australia or New Zealand would die and as a consequence we should be trying to find new supporters for the game. Not be frightened about a code that isn’t going to go away anyway.

Dunno I don’t see the suns or gws surviving

and I don’t know where they can relocate too

the lions finances aren’t much better

if the nrl really wanted too it could crush the lions out of Brisbane but that’s not a priority

Keep drinking the afl kool aid

I think you’re drinking a kool aid. I’m being realistic. Their revenue is what $800-900 million. Do you seriously think a club is going to die when their league has that much money?

Eventually yeh

they’ve wasted over a billion dollars on the suns and gws

imagine if they had spent that money on clubs that actually had fans and grew the sport

they could’ve tried to establish a team in nz

those two clubs have zero chance of long term success but the afl is too arrogant to admit their mistake

which is what we should avoid in Perth

Yes but how much revenue have they made since those teams have been in the competition. I would presume that it is a lot more than their outgoings relative to the Suns and Giants. That is what really comes down to.

I agree that GWS was stupid because they already had a Sydney team and Gold Coast struggle to maintain any professional teams seemingly. So I agree with you.

Nevertheless the analogy of the Suns or Giants would be us putting another side in Melbourne. I don’t see how that is Perth.

One last thing to consider: AFL teams are a lot more expensive to run than a League side. The only side in which we would be spending an equivalent amount would be on a PNG side if the government flips.
