Lol. On this afl & a league have spent millions trying to recreate parra vs Penrith & South's vs easts but morons here want to replace that with Adelaide vs Canberra.
Who is trying to replace those rivalries? Canberra vs Adelaide could one day be a great rivalry. Canberra vs Melbourne has been very entertaining over the past number of years. Canberra has the wood on the Storm at AAMI, only team in the NRL that does. Just because you don't value non sydney clubs doesn't mean other people are the same.

Would you agree that some Sydney teams are bigger and more important than others?

You cannot tell me that Manly is as big and important as Parramatta, Penrith or South Sydney.

I honestly believe RL in Sydney would improve with the removal of smaller teams like Manly and Cronulla. Dragons and Roosters would grow larger over the next 20 years if those two small teams were kicked out.

Nope because success is cyclical, they'll all become giants, just like roosters were a few years ago, and Penrith and Parra are now, Manly was about 15 years ago, they were in most finals and won a few too, so to discount them or cronulla who are now on the rise, and have the 2nd largest junior stock, (behind Penrith) aswell as in the finals most years too is just being stoopid...
...and if you just remove two teams because = "dots on map" you'll leave a hole for yours cross code competitions to fill, not to mention those fans you think will grow the pie for other teams (dragons, roosters) they won't follow any team, let alone the one rival next door, they'll just stop watching league forever... since you're a moron... the whole my 2nd team is broncos proves you are, due to your namesake.. plus you no nothing of Sydney and its landscape... most of your trolling posts prove that, there's nothing outside of logan that your clued in about

You dont need nine clubs in a city to keep a sport popular. But pointless argument, we‘re stuck with what we’ve ended up with.

What are you talking about? Fumbleball have games in Melbourne where 80k are in attendance. I would suggest that their rivalries are bigger than ours based on that point alone.

Also, as mongoose stated rivalries can be created based on factors other than geography or being in the comp for a long time. For example not every team in Sydney has a rivalry with one another - do Manly and Penrith or Cronulla and Parra have a rivalry? However Brisbane and North QLD or Canberra and Melbourne (most recently) do have rivalries going because they have played in close matches or in big games.

Storm vs raiders is not a derby or rivalry. It's just two teams which are currently competitive, but once they not match will go back to being nothing. When parra plays Penrith game always has extra juice regardless of where teams are at on table.
True rivalry has history & intrinsic dislike which can be based on geography, socioeconomic difference, politics, but also shared history relating to creation of clubs, catchment areas, team identity..
Two plastic expansion clubs don't qualify.

Collingwood get over 30k to watch home game against gws so that must be bigger derby than anything Sydney got in NRL huh?! Dumb logic.

Broncos & Nth Qld tap into divide between two areas, channeled through most important sport in the region. That's genuine rivalry, not like storm raiders which nobody in real world (ie not on here) would suggest is a big NRL rivalry.

You are clearly being disingenuous or you just didn’t read my post studiously.

I was obviously referring to contests being certain Melbourne teams you know Carlton vs Essendon or Carlton vs Collingwood etc. Those games probably attract 80k supporters through the gate which you never see in the NRL outside of probably a Grand Final. Ergo why would they then be spending heaps of money to in your words generate a rivalry like Easts vs Souths when they already have rivalries that are much bigger. That’s pretty dumb logic right there.

Also, you obviously skipped over the part where you know not every Sydney team has a rivalry with one another. Only a certain few do. Finally, those rivalries might be important to those sets of supporters but if the game itself is not a quality game then it won’t have very much interest to anybody outside of those supporter groups - refer Parra vs Penrith final and it’s lowest rating this year for evidence.

Canberra vs Melbourne is a rivalry, not many teams historically have the wood over the storm, but the raiders do...theres history with the coaches sticky and bellyache, and also geographically they are the closest clubs to each other... people say there's a rivalry with raiders and panthers, but thats just remembered GFs in the 90s

I'm not sure whether I'd class the current thing between the Raiders and Storm as a rivalry or not. I guess it is in a technical sense, it's just a very friendly one, with little to no malice in it at all.

It doesn't matter anyway, as the NRL and broadcasters will allow it to wither on the vine just as they allowed our last two rivalries (Broncos and Dragons) to die out through mismanagement and lack of attention...

Canberra Raiders vs New Zealand Warriors each year on ANZAC Day should be on the cards. Auckland and Canberra can host the game on a rotating basis.
Not having Canberra involved in ANZAC day, and getting the War Memorial and political and military establishment as involved as possible, continues to be a huge missed opportunity.

It's not really surprising though, the NRL constantly overlooks Canberra and is too self absorbed and obsessed with Sydney to see the benefits. You can bet your arse that the AFL would exploit those avenues if/when they have a team in Canberra.

So after arch nemesis which opponent is team's arch nemesis?! Dumb

It's nothing just Penrith vs raiders now. Only here would somebody tell you with a straight face that it's among the most important rivalries in the NRL.
