Almost unanimous? FMD it was 50% thats not almost unanimous, thats just half, and not are all coaches, most are assistants..
As for those polls they are a utterly useless metric, as the voters are the nrl club ceos, and theyll vote purely based on what affects their bottom line, not the feel good factor of being a national code or the bring back the bears nostalgia,
Perth has been in the top picks for expansion for over 20 years, yet still no perth.. im not bagging it, just looking at it objectively... they don't seem to care about being national, its a selfish business rugby league, if you want to predict expansion (of it happens at all) you need to heavily factor the selfish infighting that goes on between each club
Even you have to agree ' overwhelming faves' amongst coaches would be a fair description given the next most popular was less than half of Perths vote.

But I agree, we've been winning these coach, player and fan votes for ten years, they arent worth sht.

Faves... its the last straw syndrome.. where aren't we yet? Perf... why don't we go to Ipswich, Central Coast, Sunshine Coast, Christchurch...etc
Well there's teams nearby that can service them for a game or two a year, so those get certain votes dependent on who actually cares that much for that certain area, but one thing thats agreed upon is Perth and Adelaide aren't represented, and perth has been vocal enough to warrant a look in, Adelaide not so much

That is overwhelming support compared to rival bids from PNG (13 %), (3%) and a second New Zealand outfit (13%).
There has also been another push for North Sydney to be readmitted. I like the sound of the Western or WA Bears. As long as they have home grown blokes on their roster. I am also in favor of a Pasifika consortium for team 20.

Ideally it'd be West Coast Pirates, South Island somethings with links to Pacifica in some meaningful development way and then whoever. My preference would be Adelaide Bears but that probably wont happen so it'll be PNG if Govt money stacks up or Brisbane3/Qlnd somewhere.

But its Rugba Leeg so you can never be sure! We could well get PNG and no-one for another two decades!

Thats a lot better use of the word "overwhelming"
Than "unanimous" coz its not unanimous, but i agree perth has the population and the market to be successful, its all comes down to the voters and whats in it for them

Definitely nor another Kiwi side. Lucky to get the first one. Only gave em that one to make em more competitive against us in Tests.

Central Coast Bears would be great if there weren't 8.5 teams in Sydney. I don't think the Bears work as well anywhere else.

It's a shame Manly were allowed to abandon North Sydney and Gosford. As the only Sydney team based north of the harbour they should represent everywhere from the North Shore to Gosford. We can blame Arthurson for this outcome. I can understand Manly doing what was best for them, but it wasn't best for the game.

Hey, do you think that if a consortium here in Wellington waved some money at Glebe or Annandale that we could have a chance at one of those 3 expansion slots??

Just curious... ;)
Nay... those clubs are not really around at reserve grade level, they are very, very lower grade, I'd even say newtown is lucky to be mentioned purely based on the fact they are popular with the pundits, and exited in the 80s on their own, not forced like the bears
Glebes are in ron massey cup along with fijis kaviti silktails, and Annandale i dont think they've existed since 1920

That's the heart of the issue for both Newtown and Norths, and a lot of the talk around Brisbane sides as well.

They're only in the discussion at all because the media and RL establishment is full of old men who don't know when to let go. It's geriatrics and boomers refusing to allow the passage of time and new generations the space to have their own impact on the game, and that isn't a good thing.

Brisbane Tigers are in the discussion because they have $135m worth of assets, a high performance training centre and a catchment that extends from Bulimba to Yarrabilba.

I guess we'd find out lol.

I am highly skeptical of the fanbase claims but lets say there are 5k fans willing to pay to watch the Bears in Sydney (a big if I know!) then Perth could offer a 5 game Sydney membership.
3 games at Allianz: v Manly home game, then away games v Roosters and Souths,
a pre season game at NSO
and a 1 game ticket for a game in Perth.

If the Perth membership included the Allianz game v Manly, and the NRL werent dumb in scheduling it, then we'd travel over for the weekend to watch it each season.

Play home games in the Western Reds inspired kit above and away games in more traditional NS jersey. everyones happy.
No they couldn't, because they don't have reciprocal rights deals, or whatever you'd call this, with any of the Sydney sides, and there's no incentive for the Roosters, Rabbitohs, or any other Sydney side to give them to you when they would benefit more from simply selling those tickets directly to Bears away supporters themselves. You might be able to work something out if you sweetened the deal in some way, but that'd likely defeat the purpose from Perth/Bears point of view.

Giving tickets to "Sydney" members for games in Perth is an even stupider idea. The overwhelming majority would just go unused, and those are seats you could potentially be selling to people who might, you know, actually intend to attend the game. On the other side of that coin you say you'd travel yearly for a game in Sydney, and good for you, but I doubt that's representative of the average fan in Perth. Nor should they have to travel to Sydney for what is ostensibly a Perth/WA side's home game in the first place.

The Bears don't care about games at Allianz either. They want them at NSO, and they've been very clear that they'd ideally host more than one a season there. Sure they might, stress might, accept one match a NSO initially, but there'd inevitably be constant power struggles for more behind the scenes.

Finally, are you really so desperate that you'd willing allow the Bears to bend Perth over and have their way with you like that? Because that's just pitiful!

I'd go without forever rather than be used like that, and cease supporting the sport out of spite if they tried to force it upon me.
