We need a team to deliver the best outcomes for the game here, not just anything because we want an NRL club. Losing the Reds very nearly killed 50 years of game history here, literally a few clubs held on by skin of their teeth. We can not afford to get this wrong for the sake of the game in WA.

I honestly dont give a sht about NS Bears, but if that is the best option for a successful WA club then so be it. Not much I have heard so far is giving me much confidence though that it will deliver a truly WA club for WA people. it seems to be all about how great it would be to get NS Bears back in the top flight.

This sentiment is why Perth Bears won't happen.

All good brova, whens the next bought premiership

Because he played his first senior football in Qld, like Peter Sterling played for NSW but was born in Qld.

Manly, Manly thats in Blacktown or their juniors are hahaha.
Tommy Tampon gone again and with him so has Manlys chances, maybe 2025.
Not sure why you’re trying to troll Manly when the topic is the Bears. Manly is in the NRL and has won premierships within the last 100 years.

Bears Chairman Daniel Dickson said yesterday that the side would would be based in WA.
We have until 2030 to work out the rest of these logistics, let’s just get a team first, make it happen, and make it work, ffs.
I’ve never heard so many negative nellies, you guys have been crying out for a team for years but now it needs to be under this circumstance and that circumstance.
Genuine question because relocation scenarios have never come up for any type of sports club in NZ - but what's the benefit for both WA and the Bears by relocating?

Away support particularly in Sydney where new teams like titans draw low crowd. Historic IP which allows marketing to hit ground running. Financial support base in Norths that won't cut & run like faceless investors. Everything Redcliffe had which allowed it to be most successful expansion NRL has had.

But the Dolphins still represent the same broader region though right and still play a few home games at the club ground? So I get how the Redcliffe fanbase connects with the new NRL entity.

How likely is the Norths support base - both financial and otherwise - likely to stick if the club shifts all the way to WA though? Is it just a name thing that people connect with? Cos they'll obviously have limited access to the players

people don't trust the Bears, probably because they have put themselves forward for every town, city, village and hamlet in the country. You have to wonder how serious they are about building a club and new fanbase outside of Sydney....

Exactly. They are whoring themselves out because they should not and will not ever get a standalone team.

The fact they think they should have any non-negotiables shows just how arrogant they are.

Its branding & indentity. Difference between how titans were received & the dolphins is night & day. Dolphins history with Beeston & the like was heavily promoted & also attached was an existing supporter base. Titans still feel plastic & struggle for rusted on support after almost 20 years.

Bears supporter base exists & not that long ago a crowd of over 10k attended a NSW cup game at NS oval. Perth Bears will be based in Western Australia, however due to the nature of the NRL will play many games in Sydney. Bears fans will be in attendance. That's a headstart a new expansion otherwise wouldn't have.

OK that makes sense, thanks. And I assume the club itself will still continue operating in North Sydney and form part of the WA entity's pathway system?

Perth needed a Sydney or Brisbane club to link up with foe its juniors to play in

this does that

plus they get a leagues club funding them and all the members and sponsors the rich north shore will offer

Salt? It’s reality. They had a losing culture and it would be a real shame to saddle any new club with it for the sake of making a few of their old fans happy.

After their two premierships in the early 1920s, they only ever played in one grand final, which they lost. After Manly entered the comp they never played in a grand final again. They just kept finding ways to lose and bomb out, even when they had a good team and should have been contending for the premiership.

They were perennial also-rans. Their biggest claim to fame is that they were a foundation team and, depending on your personal preferences, had a good colour scheme.
Wow someone is bitter
