Mind you, this is on the assumption that Sunshine coast stadium gets the upgrade's talked about. Think I saw a video of it on the forum a quick google search will show the future stadium.

4 Dolphins games then also leaving it open to Sydney clubs such as Souths taking odd games up there to utilise it too. Sunshine coast is a growing area good that RL maintains a presence.

But not at the expense of Brisbane.

Ask yourself what's a bigger priority?

20K capacity with likely good corporate facilities.

Perfect for 3-4 Dolphins games, sell a sunshine coast membership etc.. Also perfect for Sydney clubs to take NRL games to as well.
4 Dolphins home games being at such a tiny venue, and not located in Brisbane, would be a horrific outcome for RL and the Dolphins. And would completely f**k there season membership base and corporate support.

It would essentially paint them as a massive failure.

It makes more sense for a poor drawing Sydney team to play there.

Just a bloke who loves all sport. School clinics and some salary cap rorting when I was a kid made me a storm fan
It’s ok I won’t hold being a storm fan against you lol

It’s nice reading posts from people who actually know what they are talking about

I love the business of sport. I really do love all sports apart from soccer. Expansion especially, that’s why I mainly talk on the expansion forum. While I do enjoy watching the Storm and Origin, I wouldn’t consider myself knowledgeable enough about the game to debate it.

Absolutely don't disagree, why I suggest playing 8-9 games at Suncorp and not playing any at Dolphin Oval.

It just tie's in with the Dolphins own strategy that they have talked about taking games to Sunny coast & spreading their brand from inner Brisbane to Rocky.

I think 9 @ Suncorp and 3 @ redeveloped Sunshine coast will suit their strategy. Their Sunshine coast home game sold out in 2 hours this year. At a redeveloped 20K stadium works fine IMO. Also worth mentioning the population of Sunny coast and projected growth in the area.

They are only taking games to Sunshine Coast whilst the council pays for them, hence why there is only one there this year.

You do realize the cowboys play at a 25k stadium and average around 17k, they do alright. Sunny coast is a huge up and coming market with no traditional RL team there. The Dolphins should capitalize on the area. I would only play 6 games there if the Jets or another SQLD team was added, If not only 3/4. Have it so you get 1 game every week at Suncorp between 3 teams.

This is nothing like the wests/Dragons merger debacle. There’s no merging of sides, just huge untapped potential RL markets. The stadiums also will be brand new or refurbished. CTown, 8th wonder, Kograh are shitholes to be honest in terms of modern stadia. Not only that, the Steelers & Magpies definitely got the rough end of the stick, a lot of sour grapes. This idea of having dolphins in SSC/Bris & Jets in Ipswich/Bris would sew up the SQLD market.

A lot of people on this thread seem to be forgetting that The Dolphins are from Redcliffe and yet seem keen to have them not play any games there at all.
Seems to me a good way to alienate your base. Yes, the ground is not ideal but they are a Redcliffe based team.

Do you know what's a bigger more massive untapped market? Brisbane!

Having a Brisbane team live a nomadic existence and only aim to achieve 17k crowds would be a horrible failure.

After all the effort of bringing in Brisbane 2, people are suggesting that they only play 8 more games in Brisbane annually?

LU then " Brisbane needs another team so Suncorp is used every week"
LU now "Team needs to play elsewhere and just most games at Suncorp"
classic LU

Even if they were coming last this year, a 10k stadium is too small for a Brisbane team.

If SSC stadium has to be used by the Dolphins (would prefer sydney teams to take games there against low drawing opposition), then really should be limited to 2 games that likely won't draw more than 20k at suncorp. Maybe an out of form raiders or knights for example.

They could always push to be the away team at SSC stadium if/when Sydney teams take games there as well. If those upgrades go ahead they’ll want some content to fill it. Add those in with a couple home games to a Sunshine Coast membership.

Sunshine Coast will most likely never get their own team now so it makes sense that the Dolphins would target some presence there as the closest team. 10/2 sounds like a reasonable split for home games, run a few school visits, trials and the like in the area as well and it could be a valuable market for them.

The Dolphins don't pay rent at Redcliffe, and given how it works in other venues in QLD, they would be charged rent by the govt to use SSC.

Again they are only playing there when the council pays for them to do so. If the council pulls funding then Dolphins will not play any games in SC you can be sure of that.

Article by Roy Masters in today`s SMH:

"NRL club CEOs were told at a recent meeting that the decision on an 18th team will be made in 12 months’ time, with the new club entering the competition in 2027/28."

So there you have it, not long to wait.
You mean the Pasifika in 2025 comments weren't in fact a realistic option? I'm shocked!

Perth will be next. After all the threads and discussions about different potential bids and locations the 17th and 18th teams were always going to be Brisbane 2 and Perth.

I hope they keep talking up 20 teams so this part of the forum stays alive after that announcement :)
