I live up near Cairns and completely agree with you. So many other places would be better and more deserving - such as Perth, 2nd NZ team, and then Adelaide and another SE QLD team would be great.
I'd rather have a stand alone cairns side than a joint pasifika team.

If Anthony Wiggle Fields has his way, South Brisbane Magpies and Wests Ashfield might end up a new merger

That would be slam dunk. Base for Logan is right next to Springfield where jets propose. Magpies have history with Bennett & meninga etc which is weakness of firehawks. Wests money is advantage over jets

Anyone mentioning Cairns as a location for a NRL or AFL team is just ignorant of the realties of the town's population, facilities and economic situation.

It ranks 15th in terms of total population centres in Australia.

It also ignores that the team is already served by a NRL side.

There is not one metric it would win as a location for a new side against places like Perth, Adelaide, Central Coast and the Sunshine Coast.

Having seen the 2 year $1/2mil commitment by WA govt to developing a bid Im actually starting to be more convinced now that the other stuff is smoke and mirrors for a longer term 20 team strategy and that the NRL and WA Govt have got an under the table agreement in place. I doubt the Govt would be chucking that sort of money at it given the 10 year history of Perth being talked up then ignored by the NRL if it wasn't already decided.
Probably only question left is will it be a Cumins led Pirates or a NS led Bears club that gets the Govt support behind them. (I cant see them coming together)

Any joint team will need shared home grounds which automatically makes them an unattractive proposition. The dolphins are getting away with it at the moment, but I think they need to bite the bullet and play everything at Suncorp. I don't think teams like the Wests Tigers and St George Illawarra gain anything by having several home grounds.

Arlc should ask for the following from the wa govt

1. brand new iconic 30k stadium. Hbf isn’t good enough. Rent no more than 1 million pa. This gives the new club every chance to succeed

2. new coe

3. 5 million pa to go to funding rugby league junior participation in wa

that would be a winning bid imo

shit, Mackay then? what about Mudgee - i hear they love their rugby league.

Actually there is a gap between Penrith and Parramatta that should be served by a new NRL team - Blacktown Bulls

You know manly have gotten a lot of nrl players from Blacktown and there’s a leagues club around there somewhere too

its why the fumblers originally were based there as it’s a gap between the two major western Sydney teams

Been through this, yes to 2 and 3, though I'm sure the other sports would arc up on 3.
Id love a new 30k stadium next to Optus at Burswood but having invested $160mill in HBF park so far its highly unlikely. Soccer and union being sht at the moment doesnt help the argument either. Maybe if the NRl had agreed Perth 3 years ago when we started hitting multi billion $ surpluses and we were getting ready to host the womens WC then it would have been more likely.

Whats more likely is a new corporate, members and media west stand, the south stand has been designed to future add in another 1500 seats and a roof so I can see that being done.
North end they'll probably leave as is. Around $150mill and taking capacity up to 25k ish. That's ample size for NRL in Perth for a few years then if it does grow massively they can add in another 3-5k at the North end.
HBF park is well serviced by train line and short walk to main entertainment areas so location is good. Do that and it will be a solid ground, potentially a showcase for sydney suburban tips, of what can be done with a refurb.
