The Cowboys have had more players missing or backing up for Origin then any other team.

It's not like they were playing those teams listed with a full strength 17.

If you are choosing an Origin squad to stop the comp with

Robson wouldn't make it
Nanai wouldn't be eligible due to suspension

Both of them became possible from keeping the comp running, As does playing finals due to having a longer season

Sharks have plenty of money! Probably one of the most cash rich clubs in Sydney.
Not even close. Most of their asset sale went on clearing debt. Their total revenue for football club and other income generation was only $33mill last year. Some clubs generate that in football club operations alone. They only have about $3.5mill cash in the bank.

They have made extraordinarily more money than that over the past three years and yes it cleared debt, along with cash reserves and large real estate investments, the Sharks are as essential to the competition as much as any other existing club is equally as essential.

Nope they didn’t lol. When LC opens up again the revenue will increase and the cash asset base as well Youd hope. Football operations revenue is still one of the lowest in sydney but small fanbase and sht ground will do that.

Still got a tiny shite stadium and tiny shite crowds.

Perth sharks or western sharks is the only future for the team.
It ain't going to happen champ.Live with it. Ground capacity increases once development finishes next year. And that's just the starting point long term.

I

I made it very clear, but I will do so again in an isolated point. I want SOO contested by players who want to represent the Kangaroos.
That's an old way of thinking, state of origin is its own beast, its not the precursor to playing fir the kangaroos as it used to be some 10 years ago, almost half the nrl player pool stems from Pacific or Nz heritage, we only need 20 players for the kangaroos anyway, surely there's enough talent that play for NSW and QLD to round up the best 20 for the kangaroos....
again, state of origin isn't the stepping stone to representative international footy anymore..
Thats the paul kent mentality right there... in another decade theyll be players from Victoria who wouldn't be eligible to play for the kangaroos, coz they cant play SoO

And so it beigns! Its almost liek we didnt have crap teams and blow outs before we got a 17th club!!

Brutal truth exposed amid NRL expansion proposal

All those still in favour of further expansion in the next few years please raise your right hand. Wests Tigers' record loss to North Queensland followed by Canterbury's pitiful capitulation to the Knights again exposed the lack of depth in this competition despite the NRL spin doctors trying to convince us all this is "the tightest competition we've ever seen".

Truth is, the NRL competition will always be close for the first dozen rounds before falling into a familiar pattern. The good sides get better and those in the bottom four fall away alarmingly and start turning in the sort of displays we saw from the Tigers and Dogs.

Take a look at the current top eight and tell me if there are any genuine surprises from what you thought back in March. Okay, we'll give you the Warriors being seventh and the Roosters 12th as a bit of a shock but the rest of it was pretty much predictable.

It’s at the other end of the table where the problems lie. St George Illawarra, Canterbury and the Tigers have been poor for years and shown no sign of any improvement anytime soon.

The Dolphins, at the start of their existence, went at it like a 20-year-old at a free beer party. They've now won just one of their last six, dropping the last four straight by a combined 160-62.

You can just about put a fork in Wayne Bennett's mob, they look done. And while the Dolphins deserve the highest of praise for being more than competitive first year in, isn’t what they’re now going through – and the horror show that is the Dragons, Tigers and Dogs - proof there is a lack of genuine depth at a number of clubs?

Throwing another club in the mix so soon after the Dolphins' arrival – just so we get to an 18-team competition - would be sheer madness.

The problems at those clubs go deeper than just player depth. I didn't see the game but that Bulldogs side should never lose by 60 to the Knights. Something very very wrong at that club. Tigers as well....

It's interesting that these clubs (Bulldogs, Tigers, Dragons) are all inner south-west sydney - Is it time one of them starts to seriously consider relocating? Dragons to Wollongong fulltime at least.

Dragons to Wollongong bar two big games at Allianz every year maybe.

Its hard to fathom how clubs with massive pokie dens funding them (Bulldogs and Tigers) or massive jnr areas (Dragons) can be performing so badly on a regular year on year occurrence.
Im not sure its about player talent depth, maybe its coaching, maybe its poor ongoing management, who knows? I guess if it was easy to fix every club would be successful!

Don’t buy this “there isn’t enough player talent depth for 17/18 teams” line.

sure it’s spread out thinly but there’s always going to be 2-3 teams that struggle and somebody has to finish in the bottom 3.

this being said the NRL could easily address this by investing more time and money in places like PNG, Fiji, Samoa and Tonga.

Thats the furphy of it, one its not measurable by any scientific measure. Two the ARLC does nothing, and I mean less than nothing, to address the issue if they think it is an issue. NRLWA has had its funding cut and had to shelf its elite development program and U19's SG Ball program because of funding withdrawal by NRL. NZRL continues to be funded a pittance. That's how serious they take developing a deeper pool!

If they got more juniours playing from across the country then it would solve a lot of issues.
Not really, Its not just a numbers game. If it was PNG would be producing dozens of NRL first graders. Its numbers plus quality of coaching, plus elite pathways plus scouting.
