Phil Gould's blunt answer on his podcast when asked if it should be Perth, PNG or a second NZ team next in the NRL:

"Brisbane"

When quizzed on the options presented in the original question he made these comments:

NZ - "eventually, but not yet. They aren't ready for one yet"

Perth - "perhaps, they'd be the third option for me"

PNG - "under serious consideration because the Governments are involved"

I also saw a podcast from Gould last week where he said the Channel 9 RL team was the best team he has ever been involved with…

Channel 9 has done very little for the sport of RL in my view… the Today show does its best to talk up Channel 7s upcoming AFL game each week, whist ignoring its own sport…

Rl’s fascination with having lots of small clubs in one city over big clubs in big cities has held us back far too long. Bring in proper expansion of the game!

Yeh one game memberships, when they were trying to flog full memberships they couldn’t shift 12k of them and had to sell dolphin stadium ones separately lol.

but again no one is questioning if there’d be a following for brisbane 3, the question for the nrl is does it want to grow into new markets or keep consolidating already reached markets.

he has history in the games as player, coach, ceo, and pathways expert, in which he built penriths from scratch and most successful origin coach for nsw, his insights are wasted on you, purely coz beside all ive mentioned, you had to be told all of this or basically disregard it and dont value one if the smartest operators in NRL, look at guys like andrew johns, mal meninga and loz daley, all great players but dumb as dogshit, so yeah you can say their opinions are valid to certain aspects of the game, mainly on field tactics, but Goulds and guys like shane richo are opinionated coz they know every intricacy of the RL landscape, and their opinions matter, whether you agree or not..

It does. On a world scale nrl clubs are tiny. Even in Australia compared to our main competitor nrl clubs are significantly smaller fc operations like for like, eg broncos are half the size of west coast. Titans are a qtr the size of dockers.

No doubt they will be. no one’s questioning suppprt level for a third brisbane club. Dolphins are smaller than broncos and likey easts will be smaller than dolphins.
But again that’s not the decision.

The decision is where does nrl want to be in ten years plus? Still largely confined to two states or a national comp with growing international Presence. that will be answered by where the next club, maybe three end up.
