Yep totally understand that.
Cumins was super reluctant to step up again having been burnt badly before in 2012. He probably should have listened to his gut and not wasted his time and money!
It's a tough one. I personally believe that that was most upsetting for the NRL is they're effectively.. burning all the time , effort and money of all these bids .. they know that !and respect all that . and the WA consortium thought to offer nothing .. the NRL looked to have preferred WA but to except it on such little grounds is really disrespectful of the other bids.
You need to reward the best bid, if you don't do that, then the next round of bidding will be empty . Why would you bother to throw millions into a bidding process that was already decided?
Perth gave that impression and its not something that the NRL can afford.

It'd be pretty naive to not think at least 2 of the 3 locations were decided prior to submissions, probably the 20th one as well.

Offered nothing? They offered to spend $30mill of their own cash setting up the club to be as strong as it could be and the WA govt offered $450mill to provide the club with suitable facilities and the game Jnr growth. Id suggest no other bid came close to offering to spend what WA has offered.

I was surprised Chalmers didn't resurrect the Wellington bid, he was super keen for many years. Wellington seemingly went in with the Sth Is bid and gave them their backing.
I liked that one too, funnily enough the local team is now called the Wellington orcas after that bid came about, it's pretty cool to see that happen that way, yes the team was forever there, but wasn't called the orcas till 2006, also loved the advert video for that bid

Surely the NRL are very well versed on their reach, demographics, size, commercial.. ect..
So certainly decided on a base case scenario.. meaning, it's up to individual bids to make it an exception to the base case scenario.. like bidding partners, stadium deals or straight up cash...

Well maybe if you got in his ear and told him how things actually worked, he wouldn't have fkd up, I've told you plenty of times here, for several years, and counting, it's all about sureing up the club ceos votes, you get that, then you'll get the licence, then you can go and start doing all the other crap that needs to be paid for, he did it all ass backwards, started conjuring up money for the running of said club, and had fk all left to acquire a licence, one he obviously was told he never needed to pay for a licence, absolutely terrible advice, whoever told him that should be taken out back and shot

Yeh, who'd have thought when the question was ' do you want to pay something for nothing' and the answer of 'no thanks' would cause so much upset!
Having written the Dolphins bid Freshwater probably said ' well it wasnt needed last time'.
Here's an idea NRL, if somethings a criteria of the tender make it mandatory in the submission, radical I know!

If he needs to take advice off Perth red then he should just give it up

I wonder what others offered fpr a license fee? I guess as Vlad said all the bids fell short in their 'business case' it wasn't much or anything either? Perths only got the attention as A) media has been backing them in for months and B) NRL actually wants them in before anyone else.

Western Bears are getting a CofE and jnr funding paid for by Govt, if NZ bids have to come up with $20mill license fee + $30-50mill start up costs and jnr funding do you think many of them could achieve that?
Probably counts Jets out as well. There's probably only Easts that have $20mill they can just donate to the NRL and already have a lot of start up provision in place that could actually meet what the NRL is now asking for financially.

North Sydney bears and Jim Jeffries together with whatever other investors they wanted

Which may still happen anyway
Wa govt don’t care if Cummins owns it as long as they are a Perth team
haha yeh of course they could. NS playing FIFO in Perth, Id give it three years or so before it went tits up.

Look. It's a really silly argument to suggest that there's a certain amount of money and that's all they're looking at..
The figures we are getting for WA simply puts them on level footing, if that, of other bids. It's not equal. A NZ consortium has no stadium issues to attend to, no potential player issues to attend to and bring a substantial potential Television deal in NZ. There's many factors at play here .
Could WA have thwarted any potential held by competing bids with cash? Yes. How much cash?
I'll guess..not f**king zero...

I'd like to see a Perth team but that's the reality.
