I don't know how you could have Fairleigh in the side, let alone starting, and omit Sargent? Sure Fairleigh had one good year, but Sargent made a Kangaroo tour and played in a world cup final, plus had one of the great individual games to get us into the finals for the first time in 1992!!!

My side:
1. Robbie O'Davis
2. Darren Albert
3. Matthew Gidley
4. Jamie Ainscough
5. Adam MacDougall
6. Matthew Johns
7. Andrew Johns (c)
8. Mark Sargent
9. Danny Buderus
10. Paul Harragon
11. Ben Kennedy
12. Steve Simpson
13. Marc Glanville

Interchange:
14. Tony Butterfield
15. Bill Peden
16. Adam Muir
17. Robbie McCormack

By my count 15 origin players, 12 internationals. Parsons, Tahu and Hagan can count themselves the most unlucky to miss out.

James.

Because David Fairleigh's one year was better than any of Mark Sargents. Sarge tried, he just wasn't real good, whereas Fairleigh carried our team in his single year.

He was damn good, but carried us? Look at the props we had that year: Butterfield, Fairleigh, Rauhihi, Parsons, O'Brien, Grief ... and in the backrow: Kennedy, Shiels, Simpson, Peden, Fletcher, Rudder. That is an awesome forward pack in anyones language, no way Fairleigh or any other human being would be capable of carrying it!

As for Sargent, no doubt he was a top player, plus I give some weighting to his longevity at the club, as well as his rep achievements. When he was at the club the Knights forwards were the most feared in the comp, this wasn't achieved by making ham sandwiches.

James.

Jamie Ainscough was awsome. I was a big fan of the mans work

Ainscough was magic, I will never forget his sideline left footed dropgoal to win a game in 95 against Wests.

Plus I had to include some player in the backline other than just the 97 winning side!

Fairleigh played about the best year i've ever from anyone, and deservedly got player of the year. Sorry dude, if I had to choose between Sarge and Fairleigh, Fairleigh would win hands down.

Haha, fair enough.

As for the Ainscough field goal - saw a replay of the ABC Saturday arvo coverage at about 11:30-1:30 Saturday night on 2, over here in NZ. Those were the days!
