Meth's view represents half the NZ opinion.

McCullum's batting divides opinion in NZ.

I actually agree with you.

Im pissed off that he looks like he is short of net time, though.

Yeah, he did what he does. Probably tends to get out 5 overs early for mine, but I appreciate the approach

For some reason we seem to prefer quiet grafters like Williamson and Richie McCaw. Personalities as aggressive as McCullum tend to divide opinion as others have said.

I think it's completely ridiculous BTW, but as a McCullum defender I've been hearing it for years now. 14 years and people are surprised he came out swinging, I mean really...

McCullum is a double edged sword. Scores very quickly, but often gets out unecessarily. That sort of goes hand in hand, can't really have one without the other.

There does appear to be little situational awareness at times though as he just plays how he plays and whatever happens happens. I think that approach does grate on people at times as they would prefer say 80 off 80 balls than 44 off 29.

His average of 30 probably doesn't help the perception as he's a better player than that even if a lot of his average has to do with his early career where he was down the order and often throwing his wicket away at the end of the innings in search of quick runs.

Yeah but he is also keeping Latham out of the team. i think Latham bats too slow but he has a lot of fans.

He is also keeping out a red hot Munro. I am a Munro fan and think he could possibly be the future.

A farewell tour and he looks short of net time in a big series. But he is swinging his way back to form, which is good if he can play a front foot defence in the tests.

For the record, I have defended Bmac's WC final innings endlessly.

Calling it now, Nicholls' jump once making his ground will get him run out one day.

Rutherford and NMac talking about heavy balls.

Where is Jeff Wilson when you need a smart Otago sports commentator.

Richardson look like a guy who is more worried about stopping runs than taking wickets. Either that or he just lacks the variety and nous to out think batsmen.

This is already a good innings from Nicholls, coming in at #4 after we lose our best bat for a duck.

Would that be out? Wouldn't it be assessed as having made his ground? Different story of course if he was attempting a further run. I remember in 93/94 Ken Rutherford running out Sanjeewa De Silva at McClean Park by throwing the ball at his nuts basically, De Silva jumped, the ball cannoned into the stumps and he was given out. I thought though that may have changed it that if you were taking evasive action you'd be considered in.

Still long way to go in this innings. 330 is an absolute minimum though to feel any sort of confidence of defending it and even then it's dicey. Halfway there.
