Shaun Marsh's lingering back problem has given Michael Hussey a chance to gatecrash the World Twenty20 after he was called into Australia's squad for the opening two games of the New Zealand tour. Hussey's Twenty20 prospects seemed bleak when he was left out of the original unit and he has not been required since the team was knocked out in the first round of last year's global event in England.

Andrew Hilditch, the chairman of selectors, said Hussey had a chance to push for a spot in the World Twenty20 squad for the event in the Caribbean in April and May. "Hussey has shown excellent form throughout this Australian summer, is well equipped for Twenty20 cricket and thoroughly deserves this opportunity," he said.

Hussey, who remains a key figure in the 50-over team, has played 18 Twenty20 internationals and scored 226 runs at a strike-rate of 134.52. The first match of the tour is in Wellington on Friday and is followed by the game in Christchurch on Sunday.

Marsh, the opener, hurt his back in the warm-up before the third ODI against West Indies two weeks ago and has been hampered ever since. "While he continues to improve there are still some signs of the injury," Alex Kountouris, Australia's physio, said. "He will continue to be monitored before a decision is made on his availability for the one-day component of the tour to New Zealand."

I dont mind MHussey in the middle order

Provided Warner and Sunshine can get us off to flyers, and guys like Tait, Nannes and Harris bowl well in their opening spells, then we will be damm hard to beat in this form of the game, God help other sides if Brett Lee can get back in the side and hit top form

Why on earth don't they give a young player a go. Hussey is a terrible T20 plaYER. Why not give Mitch Marsh a go, or Aiden Blizzard.

think I'd prefer to see some one else get a run

its not as though we dont have the depth

Agreed, a backwards step.

Team should be:

Warner (replace Marsh)
Watson
Finch (replace Ponting)
D Hussey (replace Clarke)
White
Birt (replace Hussey)
Paine/Ronchi (replace Haddin)
Smith
Tait (replace Johnson)
Nannes (replace Bollinger)
McKay

As you can see, it is almost a completely specialist T20 team. That is the way we should go, rest up regular ODI and Test players like Ponting, Clarke, Hussey, Haddin, Johnson, Bollinger and Marsh, and bring in some T20 specialists.

Warner, Finch, D Hussey and Birt are all fearsome strikers of the ball with plenty of domestic success in T20 matches. We all know what Paine and Ronchi can do, and Tait and Nannes are the best T20 bowlers we have.

Its a bit late to be doing much more experimenting with the T20 WC coming up soon. If Mike brings his ODI game to T20 then we might have the middle order woes sorted.

Should be an interesting game, this one.

Saw the Aus v Windies last night and Aus dont look that special to be honest.

Liked Hussey's fielding.

Good to see that Mike Hussey is still in the frame, I am pretty sure he has a good T20 record and is a fantastic finisher

I hope Australia start batting White above David Hussey, White isnt really good at the finishing role these days but Dave is superb at it, he doesnt like to come in with lots of time left, he wants to just smash everything
