It was a bad blunder from JL to open with Burns and Wade. If JL has his head screwed on correctly, he surely cannot open with Wade/Burns in the 4th innings.
Yes, in test matches you need an opening combination that can see off the new ball, but at the same time you need opening batsmen to build a foundation from which the remainder of the innings can be established on. Think of what opening pairs such as Greenidge/Haynes, Hayden/Langer, Taylor/Slater, Cook/Strauss were able to achieve.
Wade only getting 8 from 51 balls and Burns 8 from 41 balls didn't do their teammates a favour at all. Scoring at such a painfully slow rate, Wade constantly wearing body blows sent a nervous tension and vibe which then rubbed off on other players (e.g. Smith) after they got out.
