Hick needs to go, any viable alternative's?

Could do a lot worse than Mike Hussey IMO

That being said the problems we've got run an awful lot deeper than who one of the extra coaches is in the nets. Without some more fundamental change, it'll be shuffling deckchairs to a large extent

Yep, bit hard for the batting coach to change much once you get that level. Take that fat slogging myth Funch for example.

This is just disappointing batting.

You can’t bat for the draw on day 2.

Exactly.

Especially when the Shield is basically seen as the least important format by CA.

Our problems all stem from problems in the Shield and in the way CA treat the Shield. For f**ks sake we had Hazelwood and Cummins dodging syringes at Chisholm Oval in a Futures League game, capped in how many overs they could bowl, rather than giving them a couple of Shield games prior to the series...

It's unlikely to improve whilst the powers that be are obsessed the T/20 cash cow, but yeah get an elite batting coach into the academy.

Their coach is an elite batsman who knew exactly what it took to score runs in test cricket.

They had the stats of our 3 test quicks and how much they had played for NSW in Sheild cricket.

Starc 28 games in about 8 years

Haze about 27 in 8 and Paddy 7 in 7 years, yes I know he has missed a lot of cricket with injuries but it does show the top bowlers just don't play in the Shield.

Instead of playing the Shield game over here in Perth at the venue of the Second Test, Starc, Hazelwood and Cummins were having an elite net session with Steve Smith in Sydney.

How the hell are we only on 146 after 68 overs?

Where is the positivity?

We are about to face a new swinging ball with the tail, with not even 150 on the board.

Absolutely pathetic

Exactly. It's f**king ludicrous.

The fact that these guys are not playing Shield is an absolute farce. How can Marcus Harris prepare for the next step facing Simon Milenko in Shield cricket?

I actually think that the CA contracted players should be assigned states, and I say that as a huge NSW fan. Imagine if every week prior to the internationals, you had your top bats for each state going "jeez, this week I've gotta face Starc and Hazelwood, week after is Cummins and Bird, then Lyon and Sayers or whatever. Same for the bats. Make sure the players are spread around the Shield, maximise the exposure other players get to these guys in the three of four matches they might play.

There are way deeper issues too, but we need to strengthen the Shield
