I've never been a Lyon hater..He is what he is at the moment,a limited spinner who is still learning his trade..but learning it on the toughest stage..

He is frustrating at times,but just about every right arm offy we've had since i've been watching test cricket has..

Tim May struggled until Warnie came along..Mo Matthews was ordinary..the list goes on..

I remember having to put up with Graeme Beard,now there was a shit right arm offy..

Lyon is no match winner,but he did get the wickets of Tendulkar,Kholi,& Seewag on his favourite deck,& was our 2nd highest wicket taker for the game..

I think a bit more perspective should be used when assessing Lyon..

It's not as though we have another right arm offy knocking down the door to take his spot..

Lyon is being told to bowl flatter and faster by the pathetic keeper and the captain. He is no Murali but he is a decent, test standard off spinner.

He gets so much hatred directed at him because he doesn't take 5 wickets an innings that it's laughable.

I 100% guarantee that ANY of the other spinners will go for as many runs and get fewer wickets whilst we are in India. He is the best of a pretty ordinary bunch and is not backed up by the keeper or the batsmen at all.

At least from his point of view he will have a chance to redeem himself in Hyderabad. Nobody good enough in the squad to displace him.

Lyon has no variation. Indians will play him to the leg side all day, bread and butter for them. He's useless. Especially if he keeps bowling too short like he's done.

Any right arm off spinner without an arm ball or wrong one is not test standard, he'll be eaten by right handed batsmen who know a bit about spin.

Lyon has no excuse, he's just not good enough.

Mate I agree with that. I think he goes okay. Will only improve over time. He is far superior to X, Steve Smith and co.

And without doubt it would help if Wade would take a catch occasionally.

More importantly, he was thrown into this dustbowl as the only genuine spinner so there was huge expectation to basically take 20 wickets by himself. Imagine if he had another half decent spinner (ie. SOK) at the other end? Would have made a huge difference.

Anyway, no doubt he is getting some bad advice re: bowling speeds etc.

Gotta love Dean Jones on twitter suggesting we leave out Henriques for the next test. He is a brain dead. Over all I would say the loss is on our batsmen more so than our bowlers. We should have made the 500 that India did in their first innings. We certainly should have picked 2 spinners even if Lyon and Doherty don't fill us with much hope.

With Henriques being more effective then Sids and Starc in the first test I would say Bird should be replaced with SOK and he should line up in the next test with Khawaja for probably one of the lefties. That way you add a spinner and improve the batting plus Khawaja is a handing spinner himself.
