As I've said before, a leg-spinner (especially one that has the ability to turn the ball sharply) adds that extra dimension to the bowling attack, but the Aussie selectors have predominantly held a negative attitude to wrist-spin bowling in the post-Warne era.

Unless the Optus Stadium pitch breaks up like it did on day 3/4 of the test last year vs Pakistan, an off-spinner just doesn't have the natural variation that is going to pose much danger in this situation.

This test has the same feeling as Ponting's farewell at the WACA back in 2012.

Similar low scoring 1st innings from both teams (225 vs 163), before South Africa - courtesy of the Amla/De Villiers partnership - batted Australia out of the contest in the 2nd innings.

Interestingly enough, Lyon and Starc are the only two Aussies from that test that are still going around

The Aussies have an aging squad: too many players in the squad over 30 (especially in their mid 30s, across all 3 formats) that will be retiring within a short interval of each other, hence Aussie supporters in for a long, painful rebuilding process (worse than what happened post-Warne/McGrath/Langer/Martyn/Gilchrist/Hayden). Unfortunately, the selectors made a huge blunder last summer not blooding some new players, especially in the Windies and NZ test series.

Regarding Swepson....it's clear the selectors have no faith in him, hence why he's only played 4 tests (across Pakistan and Sri Lanka). I doubt he'll ever play a test in Australia, only being potentially selected for tests in the subcontinent.

Furthermore, the selectors need to be looking long-term, keeping an eye on any leggies at Shield and first grade level in the 18-25 age demographic, as coaches such as the late Terry Jenner have been correct in saying that leggies take time to develop. The frustration he noticed towards the end of his life was that most coaches/captains/selectors at any level of cricket don't have the patience of those in past decades, and are very quick to discard the leggie onto the scrapheap the moment he doesn't perform well, or when the leggies do get selected in the team, the frustration of barely getting a bowl.

With Bailey/McDonald/Cummins at the helm, I don't see this attitude towards leggies changing at all whilst they're in charge

Murphy is the Lyon heir. He probably retires next Ashes along with Khawaja and Haze. It's going to be a big thing in 12 months.
