When we decided to rest our whole pace attack for a deciding test at the waca. Against the Saffas who most certainly did not rest their all star pace attack.

And CA were surprised it didn’t work
Didn't Pattinson get injured and Siddle was cooked after the Adelaide Test. That's why they had to change the attack.

I can't remember who the 3rd bowler was that Summer but yeah the rotation policy under Mickey Arthur was a sham and Pat Howard was a rugby toff who was so far up James Sutherland's arse hole it wasn't funny. How that bloke lasted so long in a crucial role was ridiculous

Selectors should have picked Hazlewood instead of Hastings that test match who was 12th man.

Pattinson was ruled out injured, Siddle and Hilfenhaus (he's the other paceman you were thinking of) were rested due to the rotation policy. In addition, Shane Watson came in for Rob "nine" Quiney as the 4th fast bowling option at the WACA.

So, Pattinson/Siddle/Hilfenhaus were replaced with Johnson/Starc/Hastings. The first time in 127 years (1885) that the Aussie test team changed their entire frontline pace attack between tests! Terrible timing to make such a drastic change leading into a test series decider, let alone a short 3-day turnaround between tests.

Hastings bowled one good ball that test (which turned out to be the only test he would ever play) and that was the ball that got AB De Villiers out. Beautiful outswinger IIRC. Otherwise, he was too slow and pedestrian to use at the WACA, conceding nearly 6 runs/over in the 2nd innings.

Now that you mention it, yes, Hazlewood was in the squad and if the selectors were definitely going to make changes for the WACA test, he should've been selected over Hastings. Although only 21 at the time, he was already destined for big things, being in the Aussie U19 World Cup team at age 17, making his state debut for NSW also at age 17, and ODI debut at age 19.

As a result, Hazlewood missed out and had to wait a couple more years to make his test debut.

Enjoying this Hindutva commentary
Although I don't understand Hindi, at least I didn't have to hear Mark Howard/Haydos/Langer talk absolute crap about how good it is the Aussie tail-enders were refusing to take runs, or the over-the-top screaming from Dan Ginnane on Triple M radio when I was listening to the Hindi commentary on 7Plus.

He really is the doyen of f**kwit commentators. He makes Haydos seem likeable.
Of all the Indian commentators, Dinesh Karthik is the one that does my head in. Absolutely CANNOT stand him at all. Thank God that neither Fox nor Ch7 brought him out to Australia.

Reminds me so much of when I shared a rental years ago (thankfully for only 7 months) with an Indian guy who was just like Karthik: epitome of small-man syndrome, had an ego the size of Clive Palmer's guts, but has a glass heart, getting extremely feisty at just the slightest disagreement or criticism with anything that goes against what they believe or support.

If you think that Shastri and Gavaskar are fwits, Dinesh takes the cake in that department. It was unbearable listening to him in last year's tour of India....but then somehow he also got a commentary gig for Sky Sports UK during the 2023 Ashes tour. Every time England started to outperform Australia in the latter part of the Ashes, Dinesh would start chuckling and gloating in commentary.

Such a sweet, satisfying moment when Mark Waugh had the balls to stand up to him and put him in his place in the commentary box last year in India.

I'm going to wait until after Australia bats the 2nd time before I pass judgment on McDonald's statements regarding the pitch.

However, if Australia does get skittled in the 4th innings, is he going to say that moisture magically reappeared on the pitch again when Australia batted?

Hautitz! He wasn't that bad.

I remember that tour with Cam White. We needed more overseas from the spinners. Brett Lee wanted a word when punter wouldn't bowl the pacers when our over rate was slow.
Ponting never really backed Hauritz, but I remember him having England 9 down with an hour to play and deciding to bowl him and other part timers. You’re yelling at the tv to bowl a strike bowler as it just takes a single ball to win it. England hold on and win the series.

What may happen come 5th day, deck may break up a bit ? So Washington may come into play

At the moment early day 3, looks like a batting paradise, and that may continue till games end. No excuses batting out a draw then..

MacDonald is just the rebound relationship the players needed after a bad break up with their crazy last ex(Langer)

Bloke is a dumb goober who should be nowhere near the job, Dizzy was always the best option.

Jaiswal played well. Good knock.

Our bowlers are going to be stuffed by the end of today.
