There is a little bit there when they put it in the right areas, problem is bar the first hour they haven't been able too.

so great to see the cricket in HD now in GEM

Why can't Ch9 do this on their main channel (like what they will do for the NRL next year)?

Isn't ch 91 a HD channel? cricket's been on that all day, but I can't really tell the difference.

The law didn't allow it mainly due to equipment in people's homes not "HD" ready when digital tv first came out. That all changes this month though when nine starts to simulcast its main channel from 27th (if not this date it's around it). The other channels will follow suit shortly.

The downfall is that GEM reverts to SD so if something such as The Ashes or another sporting event is not on the main channel it will only be in "SD".

No, Ch91 is Ch9's main channel (SD).

And yes, although the HD is not as good as Fox Sports HD, I do notice the screen pixellation (or whatever you call it) is much clearer on GEM.

Sure it was the law that didn't allow it?

IIRC, both the Australia/NZ end of year RL test and Rugby World Cup semi final in 2011 were televised on the main channel and on GEM in HD.
