if you are 4 for 20, then fair enough

but if you are 2 for nearly 300 and you are next in, I would have been at the gate before the night watchman could get his pads on, what was Punter scared of, it was hardly very threatening bowling

What further doesnt make any sense if Australia only planned to get to a score like 450, why would you bother sending a night watchmen in. That means we only needed another 150 odd. And if that was the plan why didnt we push on alot earlier. As said, 450 needlessly lets them back into the game. When your 3/300, you drill the other team out of the game, or right behind the 8ball. 450, up against 1 or 2 fa 100-150 at stumps turns into a reasonably even game for one that we dominated and dominated severley for the first 9 hours of the test and without doing anything special Pakistan are back on level terms.

I think Australia will be okay, but this declaration could be the worst decision by a cricket captain in living memory.

What was Ponting thinking? Pakistan must have thought this was a belated Xmas present from the Australian captain. They've gone from being completely out of the match to being one good session away from level pegging.

Unnecessarily aggressive IMO. Seems even sillier considering his ultra-defensive decision to use a nightwatchmen late on Day One. If Ponting only wanted 450, why opt for a nightwatchman at 3-300?

Yes he does, has been working on it for a while, just hasn't had the confidence with himself to bowl it in a match. I would like to see his hand position when that ball was bowled, it definitely was not an off break.
