hauritz averages about 30, contributes with the bat, can keep it tight, and take wickets (not at any great rate, but he does take them). we were lucky to have haddin to step in after gilly... haurie is the unlucky one who has to follow (IMO) the second best aussie cricketer of all time

Congrats. To ricky nice declarations due to vfl ruining the mcg.

Well played watson, will make a good number 5 or 6.

Even hauritz did well.

Pakistan are struggling, politics getting in the way

The Pakis are probably 4 good players away from being a really handy side and could have a few of those sorted by Sydney.

If Younis is able to get back that will stiffen up the batting a lot, and Kaneria will play in Sydney. The still need to find some good openers and probably need another paceman. Aamer looks like a real superstar in the making and Umar Akmal could be anything. I don't think they'll be as easy to beat in Sydney.

If Kaneria, Gul and Younis come in for the SCG match I'd back Pakistan.
Well hopefully Kaneria will be fit, Gul was overlooked can only presume politics and Younis will not be there, should be but won't, again politics.

Damn shame.

Time for Mr Cricket to go. Young blood required whilst we play weaker oppostion.

Geez I laughed when Taylor showed the dressing room, Watson next to Ricky, how sweet.

Indeed it will :(

Funny thing is, if Bond could play, O'Brien had stayed, and Ryder got fit, I reckon we could have pushed you hard in that series... TBH, I think Bond could have shown up Katich and Watson as openers, and Hussey and North... but we'll never know now... The worry is always our top order
Definately agree regarding bond but not so much O'Brien, a good solid bowler and a likeable player but not really that great a player. Ryder should be playing at that point at least which helps your batting.

Didnt enjoy this test match much, a sh*thouse dull pitch with nothing in it being the principle reason but also because, frankly, much of australian cricket isnt as good to watch currently. I love a really good contest, eg Ashes 05 or last years Saffer series, and the west indies series was pretty damn good, but alot of the standard of cricket has been poor. At least when we thrashed everyone it was always high quality cricket played by the Australians, particularly Warne and Mcgrath

Was Johnson on the other side

yep, O'Brien was pretty ordinary, but the last series he was bowling consistently mid 140's, and very well - like he was a different bowler.

I think we're having too many sh*thouse batting wickets, when they showed the year's leading wicket takers they were all averaging around 30...

We won't see the quality of cricket the great Australian sides played for a while now, but we should see some keenly fought test series, provided the ICC et al can ensure that test cricket remains a priority - I fear greatly for the likes of NZ and the Windies losing their best players to the 20:20 nonsense

Agree 100% Test cricket is still the top priority and hopefully the ICC see that. There is nothing between the top 4 or 5 sides which is great for test cricket.

You blokes surely have to give Hauritz a bit of credit. He has improved dramatically in the last year and he did bowl Australia to victory even though we would have most likely won anyway. Swallow some pride and stop carrying on.

I know your pride has been dented with Watto doing welll Johnson finding form and now Hauritz taking wickets but I think it is time for some of you to turn into men.

I don't think anyone hates Hauritz, he's just not that good ...

I think rates would be a better description, its not his fault he keeps getting selected

the problem now is that he will stay in the team off the back of that effort for ages

I see Punter on Foxsports this morning talking up Hauri and the fact that is his first ever Michelle including first class games which really highlights just how ordinary he is and the fact that he should probably never have been selected in the first place.

He did bowl well yesterday though

Johnson finding form

What form? His bowling form overall is still bordering on atrocious..... still bowls way too many four balls for an apparent strike bowler and is always two balls away from being the wayward yip factory he was on the Ashes tour. The two better bowlers in Bollinger and Watson have not had anywhere near the overs they should have bowled.

Watson isn't and never will be a long term opener hence the reason the selectors are so keen to get Hughes back into the team on a regular basis. He will become a decent middle order player and like Katich, Ponting needs to take more faith in his ability to bowl....

One thing a few people are forgetting is the level of the opposition..... the Windies did turn around their first game form but were always a wicket away from capitulation. The Pakistanis have been shown up for the rabble that they are. The Poms will be a different story come the Australian series.

So you didn't watch the boxing day test at all??? Johnson found form whether or not he keeps it for the SCG is another matter.

What form did he find exactly? His action hasn't changed, his ability to take wickets with bad balls hasn't either. He is taking the same wickets he has done all year..... so his "form" hasn't changed at all.
