in all seriousness, there isn't a spinner in Aust that's clearly better than him?
No there really isnt, we have f**k all spiners currently. Krejza is perhaps more threatening but he also leaks alot more run.

On another note, Pakistans top 3 is absolutely attrocious. One of the worst I have ever seen. For their sakes I hope they get Kahn out here because 3 players averaging under 35 in the top 3 (one of them under 30) is terrible. Really Yousef should bat 3 for them in the absence of Kahn, just to sure them up a bit.

well, we've been waiting years for Vetorri to bowl NZ to victory on day 5, so Hauritz is one up on him

Pakistan have a lot to work on - as mentioned above their top 3 is appalling, rivals NZs. Outside of Yousuf and the Akmal brothers they have little - and the selection of Rauf over Gul was bizarre. Hopefully Younis will make the trek

In a way a bad thing for the Aussies - who have just beaten the Windies at home, and Pakistan at home - you guys should remember that those two sides are very similar to NZ  a false sense of security is being developed, I am not sure there's too much to fear in the Australian side either... as I said earlier, this is great because we now have test cricket the world over that is competitive

Always going to happen wasnt it, after a good series in Saffers we lost to a mediocre english side. So of course we come home and beat rubbish opposition and the heirachy will think all is good. Siddle will keep playing, Hussey will keep playing, Haurie will keep playing, Johnno will get away with bowling tits and our best young batsmen since Ponting will continue to sit on the sidelines.

Oh, and we have NZ away after this series so the false sense of security will keep building;-)

I don't know where the Haurie hate comes from. He's an offy - in Australia off spin just ain't much chop. His record compares pretty favourably to guys like May, Yardley and Mallett. They all averaged about 30. Hauritz actually has the best strike rate of the 4. Sure he's no Warne, but he is the best we have and generally makes a contribution. I hope Smith does turn out to be a good un, but Hauritz is still a better bowler than him at this stage. Add his handy lower order batting and Ritzy is going ok.

I'll also add here my mea culpas over Watson. I really didn't believe he had it in him. He isn't the first guy to rely on a dropped catch to get a ton, so that can't be held against him. I've been convinced that eventually someone would sort him out and show him up for a pretender, but he just keeps churning out the runs. His bowling has been handy too with some nice movement with the old ball. He's only a 5th bowler, but a very good 5th bowler. Well done to him.

Indeed it will :(

Funny thing is, if Bond could play, O'Brien had stayed, and Ryder got fit, I reckon we could have pushed you hard in that series... TBH, I think Bond could have shown up Katich and Watson as openers, and Hussey and North... but we'll never know now... The worry is always our top order

I don't think anyone hates Hauritz, he's just not that good ...

He's the best offy Australia has produced since about 1980.

Ok that ain't much of a claim, but he's at least as good as Tim May and way better than the likes of Matthews or Taylor.

We're all hoping a great wristy comes along in the near future, and I wouldn't have a problem with playing four quicks where conditions suit. But it's not much point saying he ain't that good - he's the best we have and will continue to be selected on that basis.

Hauritz finally got some bounce and took 3 of his wickets through that. He should go well at the SCG, he was turning it in India so no reason why he shouldn't here.
