Wasn't too much to pick from so can't complain too much. Doolan and Burns are our best hopes of the untried but probably a bit too soon then you are looking at Hughes and Khawaja again.

I do agree that we don't have much to choose from. I just don't see how a guy who averages 37 at 30 years of age is going to be much chop and be a long term option. Much rather see a younger guy given a go and persisted with. Khawaja should have never been dropped for Marsh IMO. That ruined him a fair bit.

Oozie has a future, Quiney will never play again after this test match

That is my initial thought. I want Quiney to do well because he seems a decent guy and I want to win but I want him to fail to laugh at the Victorians and so I am right again.

You still sobbing over Hauritz being nowhere near the test team??

For starters Khawaja and Burns could do with a chance. Hughes is a guy who will get another chance in the future. Doolan is worthy as well.

You may not want to look at Usman's Shield stats this season...so again you have Burns (I'll give you him, just) and Doolan. So there is a grand total of 2 people shafted so to speak.

I'd only pick them 2 if the main criteria was looking like a complete f**king mong.

Put a hat on Steve. For f**ks sake

I am sure if Usman had blonde streaks in his hair the Merkin would change his tune.

Usman > Quiney. No doubt about it. Long term first drop vs a bloke who'll retire with 1 test match to his name.

The selectors are useless.

I agree Khawaja is the better long term option but

It's cricket, not league, 30 isnt that old, hell it's when alot of players hit their peak. Hussey came in the test side at ~30 and done pretty well for example.

Nope, I want our batsmen to be attacking an also be good fieldsmen...we can't carry the Phil Tuffnell version of fielding in Khawaja!

"There was a time when you could say someone could come in and do an 80% job of what Ricky can," Hodge said. "I reckon you'd be saying someone could do a 50% job now. There's just no one out there screaming absolute talent. Phil Hughes is one who is good, I think he's a real good player. Khawaja is good but inconsistent at this level. You need consistency at this level and he's lacked that.

"You're going to get found out for sure. When you're picking guys with an average of 30, you're going to get an average of 30 in Test match cricket. You're not going to get 50. Guys average 30 at this level for a reason. They've got flaws in their technique. Until guys start making 1000 runs, you're never going to be sure of any guy in the competition."

and he also sad this

I think the IPL changed the way young people thought, what they wanted to do and what they wanted to achieve

And I think he is right on both counts.

Pretty decent article by Bryan Coverdale on the stae of our batting depth at the moment

I've never seen anything about Oozie's fielding to suggest he is a bad fielder
