The only thing that made it close was the dodgy bounce.

Why should the bowler be rewarded and the batsman penalised because of dodgy bounce when they managed to get themselves outside the line of offstump?

It's part of batting to be aware of where your offstump is and make sure you aren't hit in line with the stumps. If they change the rule, it changes the whole game significantly. There is no longer any protection for the batsman when the pitch is prone to massive amounts of movement. (Which is more luck than 'great bowling')

Also, if that was Hughes, you'd be going on about how great the rule is so go f**k yourself.

I like Chappell and agree with him a lot of the time but he is completely and totally wrong about Watson, infact he couldn't be more wrong about him if he tried.

Watson should not by any means be an opener who "bats a bit". He should bat #6, he should be a key part of our attack and that way his 30s and 40s would be good rather than failures.

Let's not forget he averages 36 across 36 tests. He is mediocre with the bat. He averages 29 at a strikerate of 60 with the ball. He is potentially a frontline bowler.

1. Abuse is unnecessary, I haven't hurled abuse at you at any point.
2. It's about time batting got a little more difficult. Boundary ropes, DRS (that benefits batsmen more than bowlers), more and more batting friendly pitches.

The game has gone way in favour of batsmen in the modern era.

As for Hughes, people say I'm obsessed in him and yet here he is being brought up by someone else when he's got nothing to do with anything here.

LOL!

Next you'll be telling us Hughes is a world class number 3, up there with Ponting, Tendulkar, Amla etc

You're right, batting is too easy these days. None of the records from previous eras stack up nowadays...

I know you claim abuse is unnecessary but you try dealing with you rationally.

Batsmen are getting way more runs these days. Look at the amount of players with an average of 50+ these days compared to 20-30 years ago.

Pitches are much kinder, 4s and 6s are easier these days because of the rope, batting is easier now than it has ever been.

Watson averages almost 44 opening the batting, and thats with a relatively poor last 12 months. Its probably his best position tbh. I agree with Chappelli, put him up there if Cowan fails

I feel like it is clearly his best batting position, but there is an issue with him opening the batting and bowling, but it's not like he's the first all rounder to open the batting

So:

1) Watson
2) Warner
3) Quiney
4) Khawaja
5) Clarke
6) Hussey
7) Butterfingers
8) Starc
9) Siddle
10) Lyon
11) Pattinson/Cummins/Hilf if any are fit

Doubts about Quiney but there are no genuine number 3s in Aus at the moment.

It has been established that when he opens the amount of bowling he does is very limited because he can't be buggered when he goes out to bat.

Opening might be the best position for him, but his best position for the team is #6 and bowling as much as possible.

You've got to leave Cummins out of consideration ATM. Who knows what he's going to be bowling like post injury.

WTF is this. You drop 2 players who are currently scoring runs in Cowan and Hughes and you play Quiney who has shown nothing. That is ridiculous logic.

The current top 3 have established themselves for the timebeing. They will be the top 3 in India.

We need to pick best players in their best positions

Watson at 6 , you may as well bring back Marcus North

This just undelines our bowling stocks atm and is a temporary fix (fail) . Once we have many fit bowlers that wont be an issue, plus Watson can still bowl 8-9 overs per dig with no drama
