Thats right, the Australian test team is supposed to be about blooding youngsters, not picking the best available, thats why everyone wants Hughes, better him getting bounced around at test level than at NSW

Oh but then again people got upset when Clark was dropped, he doesnt fit this new youth policy? Of course everyone got upset when a 34 year old and 32 year old injury prone paceman were both overlooked for younger players, yet now we want the younger players? Make up your minds, pick the best or youth
a positive mix of both, what we don't need it 37 year olds making their debut - that is pointless. Key positions need to filled with talent, experience and a view to the future because everyone retires eventually. If Australia wants to reclaim the number one spot, they need to start with their selection process because it is fundamentally flawed and Australian teams are getting exposed and embarassed as a result. Australia should not be 4th in test cricket...

If they want results now to get the no1 then pick the best team and if that includes a 37 year old then so be it, he probably still has 3-4 years left

But instead they will stick with the baggy blue who averages over 60 with the ball at the GABBA compared to McGains 32, if they want a containing bowler then they may as well go back to McDonald, he could easily do better than Hauritz

they should be aiming for results in the medium term, short term solutions are silly and just prolong the same problems. IF they want results now to get them back to number one they should convince Shane Warne to come out of retirement, but that will just result in the same problem they have now. The only solution I see is what I said before ...

 Your post was going well until you placed McRanga's name in there. Placed you firmly in the Victorian category.

I liked McRanga when I first saw him, I don't remember much about his bowling (probably because there was nothing special about it), but I loved that run out he got where he bowled it then put his hand out and the batsman was caught out of his crease (sorry I am watching tv so my description of this is a bit sh*t, but I am sure you remember)

It was stump to stump, bit of movement, kept the runs down and he got a few wickets, seems to be exactly the job they expect of Hauritz

I dont remember the runout, I do remember some of the sensational caught and bowled efforts though

it may have been someone else, but I am about 90% sure it was him. I remember his caught and bowled to Kallis in Sydney, I am still not certain that was a wicket, but the umpires counted it and it was a pretty impressive effort

you make a good pint about McDonald, but I cant see him being selected while Watson is there

they really are having a few dollars each way by selecting Watson, it also enables them to cover for Hauritz
