I've played a handful of games of LMS with Cairns (hardly enough to know what he did or didn't do) but he's a genuinely nice guy and well-liked by all of us who have been lucky enough to play with him.

To be fair to Cook, there are no other openers doing anything worth a look in Division 1 of County Cricket. The fact that Jennings is there speaks volumes for their depth.

Also, in his last two FC games - one for England 'A' and one for Essex - he had scores of 180 and 96. So you can't argue he's not in form.
